BALTIMORE -- The Washington Redskins abandoned their usual formula for victory -- the passing of Kirk Cousins -- to extend their winning streak to three.Washington used an 85-yard punt return by Jamison Crowder and an uncharacteristically strong performance by its defense to beat the Baltimore Ravens 16-10 on Sunday. The Redskins (3-2) allowed 108 points in their first four games and came in with the leagues 29th-ranked defense. In this one, Washington gave up a touchdown on the games opening drive and smothered the Ravens (3-2) the rest of the way.The defense stepped up, coach Jay Gruden said. The first drive was a little scary. Here we go again. But we came back, took it personal and played well. The game wasnt decided until the final minute, when an apparent 23-yard touchdown catch by Baltimores Breshad Perriman was overturned by replay. Perriman got his right foot down in the end zone, but his left foot was out of bounds. That put an appropriate end to a miserable day for the Ravens offense, which was limited to 125 yards after halftime. We cant play like that and win, coach John Harbaugh said. We have to be better than we were today.Crowder scored Washingtons first TD with a sensational run through the middle of the Baltimore punt return team in the second quarter. The Redskins went ahead 13-10 in the third quarter with a 50-yard drive following a wind-shortened punt by Sam Koch. Cousins connected with Crowder for 23 yards before lofting a 21-yard pass to Pierre Garcon, who got behind Jimmy Smith and caught the ball in the left side of the end zone. The definitive momentum shift occurred minutes later. With the Redskins operating from near their own 3, Ravens linebacker C.J. Mosley intercepted a pass by Cousins at the 13, but lost control of the football while reaching for the end zone. The ball rolled out of bounds in the end zone for a touchback, and the Redskins subsequently moved 72 yards for a field goal and a 16-10 lead.Cousins went 29 for 41 for 260 yards. But it was the defense that won the game for the Redskins.Washington repeatedly frustrated Baltimore quarterback Joe Flacco, who was 30 for 46 for 210 yards and sacked three times. The Ravens have lost two in a row -- both at home -- after opening with three straight wins. All of their games have been decided by six points or fewer.Baltimore scored a touchdown on its opening possession for the first time this season, on a 7-yard pass from Flacco to tight end Crockett Gillmore.Crowder responded with the Redskins first punt return for a touchdown since 2008. But the conversion attempt clanged off the left upright.A field goal by Justin Tucker made it 10-6 in the second quarter. The Ravens had a chance to add to the lead after recovering a fumble by Matt Jones at the Washington 15, but a fake field-goal attempt went awry.WINDBLOWNPlaying in a stiff wind, neither team got much from its kicking game. Dustin Hopkins missed an extra point for Washington and came up short on a 56-yard field goal try.Baltimore opted to try a fake field goal in the second quarter, and failed. Later, Koch got off a 36-yard punt that didnt rise more than 20 feet off the ground.INJURIESRedskins: CB Josh Norman missed part of the second quarter with an undisclosed injury. OT Morgan Moses was taken out with a head injury that was not deemed to be a concussion.Ravens: Baltimore played most of the game without receiver Steve Smith, who sprained an ankle late in the first quarter. The Ravens also lost OT Rick Wagner (thigh) and endured a second straight game without rookie tackle Ronnie Stanley (foot).INACTIVESRedskins: Top draft picks Josh Doctson (Achilles) and Sua Cravens (concussion) were on the inactive list. Also inactive: starting CB Bashaud Breeland (ankle).Ravens: CB Shareece Wright was inactive. He started the first four games, but struggled in the last three. Ravens say Wright had back spasms recently, but he practiced all week.RUNNING MENRedskins: Jones ran for 31 yards on 14 carries and lost a fumble for the first time this season.Ravens: Terrance West peeled off a 35-yard run on the opening possession, Baltimores longest of the year. He finished with 95 yards on 11 carries. Cyber Monday Celtics Jerseys . Balls have been raising puffs of dust, edges have sometimes failed to carry to the keeper, and only once in eight innings has 250 been surpassed, but although these are alien conditions, Australia have clinched the ODI series the Australian way, according to the acting captain David Warner. The victory in the fourth ODI was the visitors most comprehensive on tour, as they ran down Sri Lankas 212 with six wickets in hand and 19 overs remaining. Aaron Finch had set the chase off apace with a 18-ball fifty, which featured three sixes and eight fours. His share of a 5.3 over opening stand which yielded 74 runs, was 55. Warner was 18 off 14 balls at the other end, eventually making 19 from 16.Its always awesome to have one of your players go off like that and for me it is more of a watching tour to be honest, Warner said. Ive been up the other end or in the dug out watching the guys go about it. But its fantastic - I love that Finch comes out and plays his game. Thats how we play. Thats the Australian way. We have always played that way, and as I said to the guys today, you almost know what your role is. The first 10 overs was the new ball and we had to make the most of it. Its about getting a good start in these conditions and make use of that new ball when were batting, because otherwise you see what happens when the ball gets old - it starts turning square.George Bailey top-scored for Australia for the second match in a row, converting Finchs start into a win with a 85-ball 90 not out. He had again been impressive against Sri Lankas spinners, using his feet often, and using the sweep and reverse-sweep better than any Australia batsman has done on the tour.We had to learn to adapt, Warner said. Look at the way George Bailey came in and reversed and swept and backed his game plan. The way he has played in the subcontinent in the last couple of years, his form has been outstanding, and the way he finished it off today was superb. It was Australias attack that perhaps played the more definitive role in the match, however, dismissing Sri Lanka for a total captain Dinesh Chandimal suggested was at least 40 runs below par. John Hastings was the visitors major weapon, taking a career-best 6 for 45 to follow his 2 for 41 on Sunday. Hastings was especially successful through the middle overs.Hes been a very good bowler for a long tiime now and hes a very cagey one - you have to respect him, Warner said of Hastings.dddddddddddd I know when Ive played against him in the past, hes just so hard to get away. In these conditions he is very challenging to go after, and it showed tonight. His skills were fantastic and theres probably a reason he got a personal best. The other string to his bow is that he can hit a long ball. We look around our team and our squad that we have had the last two years - weve got some very good allrounders in Australia. I think were in a very good paddock and thats the fantastic thing about Australian cricket.Although his team has won the series, Warner was critical of the surfaces that have been prepared this series. He said he would rather see pitches like the one at Trent Bridge, on which England made a record 444 on Tuesday. Sri Lankas ODI venues have been consistently low-scoring over the past decade. A score of over 300 has never been successfully chased down on the island. Its hard to gain momentum when the wickets prepared are like this, Warner said. I speak from an Australian cricketers point of view - were about growing the game. When it comes to one-day cricket and Twenty20 cricket you like to see more of a contest where youre scoring over 300 runs and youre chasing down totals. Sitting back last night and watching England score 400, then coming out here, busting our backsides for both teams scramble to 200 - its probably not ideal for people coming out here to watch that kind of cricket. Its a little bit disappointing from our point of view because its not the way we like to play. We like to play an aggressive brand of cricket. We like to entertain the crowd. So far, its been very difficult to try and do that. From the Sri Lankan spectators point of view - for them Id like to see fours and sixes and big hits. At the moment its probably not that way. When you see games like the England match last night - thats what I love about cricket. I love that kind of atmosphere, and thats why as a youngster I went to watch the game. But if you come here and you play five games like that, on wickets like they have here at the moment, it is going to be very, very tough to draw a big crowd all the time.
