You may hear the term Racing Royalty thrown around a lot during the Spring Racing Carnival. As is often the case with superlatives, it is an overstatement. For David Hayes, however, it is right on the mark.The Hayes name is one of the most famous in Australian racing. The family racehorse training and breeding dynasty was established by Davids father, Colin, in 1947. From the mid-1960s, their heritage-listed base in the picturesque Barossa Valley in South Australia pumped out more than 5000 winners -- including two successes in the Melbourne Cup, three in the Cox Plate and the Victoria Derby, and one Caulfield Cup.There were 40 trainers premierships in there, too.
