SAO PAULO, Brazil -- Lewis Hamilton took pole position for the Brazilian Grand Prix after he emerged from a tense battle for pole position just 0.102s ahead of Mercedes teammate and title rival Nico Rosberg.Rosberg can win the championship with victory on Sunday, but Hamilton is showing no signs of giving up as he took the 60th pole of his career and his third in a row at the last three races. Rosberg had the edge over Hamilton in the first sector but was over a tenth slower than his previous lap in the first sector, which was enough to drop him behind his teammate. If the Mercedes drivers finish in the same order at the end of 71 laps on Sunday, the title will go down to the final round in Abu Dhabi.Kimi Raikkonen took third for Ferrari with a lap 0.668s off Hamiltons best effort. The Ferrari driver was not happy with his first sector and his cars lack of downforce cost him in the second sector, but an inch perfect final sector saw him pull a margin over his rivals on the run to the finish line.Despite showing promising pace in Friday practice, Red Bull looks set to be in a battle with Ferrari rather than Mercedes on Sunday as the gap between Raikkonen in third and Ricciardo in sixth stood at just 0.136s. Max Verstappen finished fourth after complaining of a lack of rear grip in Turn 8 on his hot lap, but he lost most of his time to Raikkonen in the power-sensitive final sector.Sebastian Vettel had to settle for fifth -- 0.010s off Verstappen -- but after a brake problem kept him in the garage at the start of Q1, he will be relieved just to be on one of the front three rows. CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- Former teammates, players and a former NBA assistant coach think the credibility a Hall of Fame career brings -- and familiarity with todays players -- will help Jason Kidd successfully transition into coaching. Kidd was named the head coach of the Brooklyn Nets on Thursday, less than two weeks after he ended a 19-year career as a point guard that included an NBA championship and two tours as a leader on the U.S. Olympic team. Hes also No. 2 in career assists and steals in NBA history. "Hes going to have incredible credibility with his players, which is huge," said Brendan Suhr, a longtime NBA assistant coach under Chuck Daly, Hubie Brown and Lenny Wilkens. Even the accountability as the man in charge wont be a problem, said Suhr, who is attending the National Basketball Players Associations Top 100 camp at the University of Virginia and teaching players how to start coaching careers. "Hell be fine. Hes handled accountability before," Suhr said, adding that one of Kidds main priorities needs to be hiring experienced assistants to "fill in the gaps that you dont have." Denver point guard Andre Miller said he was initially surprised when he heard Kidd was in the running for the Nets job so soon after announcing his retirement, but the more he thought about, the more sense it seemed to make. "When I first heard that they were considering it, I was like, Wow, thats respect," Miller said at the camp. "Hes a hall of famer in everybodys mind and hes accomplished everything that you can accomplish as a point guard, as a person, in life and as a teammate.
