TAMPA, Fla. -- Darrelle Revis is a three-time All-Pro and generally regarded as the best cornerback in the NFL, yet Tampa Bays $96 million man was nervous before his first training camp practice with his new team. The seventh-year pro took the field Thursday for the first time since tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee with the New York Jets last September and since the big off-season trade that brought him to the Buccaneers for the 13th overall pick in this years draft. Although he was limited to mostly defensive and position drill work, Revis considered the day a significant step forward in his recovery. "I didnt sleep too good (Wednesday) night. I think it was just being anxious for the first day of practice, getting back out there not really knowing what the outcome is going to be," the four-time Pro Bowl selection said. "I felt fine," Revis said after the workout. "I think the biggest thing is just trying to dust the cobwebs off. It was awesome to be out there with my teammates, to be out there with the coaches and just do what I love doing -- playing football." Coach Greg Schiano reiterated the Bucs, whove made improving the worst pass defence in the league their top priority, will not rush the 27-year-olds return. The team hasnt ruled out the possibility of Revis playing some during the preseason, however the main objective is have him ready for the Sept. 8 regular season opener against the cornerbacks old team. "I think were all on the same page here," Revis said, adding that Schiano, trainer Todd Toriscelli and general manager Mark Dominik all will be involved in the decision process. "I think the biggest thing is they might have to hold me back because Im a competitor, so anxious to get out there and be with my teammates, play and compete." Schiano, beginning his second season with the Bucs, is pleased by what hes seen so far. "Were going to take it day by day. Im going to watch the video, talk with Todd, talk with Darrelle, and Mark and I will talk, then (determine) the next step. Each night well figure it out," the coach said. "So much of it will be input from Darrelle. How does he feel? This guy knows what he needs to do to get ready to play. I think communication is more important than anything." Tampa Bay finished last in the league in pass defence a year ago, coming within 38 yards of setting a record for most passing yards allowed in a season. With 16-year veteran Ronde Barber on the verge of retirement, Schiano and Dominik launched their effort to overhaul a porous secondary by signing All-Pro safety Dashon Goldson to a five-year, $41.5 million contract in free agency. Then they traded for Revis, who was unhappy with his contract in New York, and gave him a six-year, $98 million deal. "Our expectations are very high," Revis said. "This is a new beginning for this team." A fresh start Revis wasnt sure hed get while he was sprawled on the ground when he was injured 10 months ago. "When I was laying on the field, I didnt know what it was. ... I could have blown my whole knee out. At that time I started thinking. I played six years and it could be gone that fast," he said. "When the doctor said it was the ACL, I started crying because I knew I had a second chance. Its humbling that you get a second chance." Revis has heard from or run into people from all walks of life who also have had torn ACLs. Hes talked with skiiers, snowboarders, even janitors. "When you tear your ACL, you come into the ACL family," he said laughing. "You hear a lot of stories. They all tell you the same thing." If hes learned anything from the conversations, its that he has to be patient. "Weve got a good game plan. As I progress and get better, Ill be in full tilt. I dont know when that time will be. Its day to day, and weve got to follow the game plan," Revis said. "Its really all on the player at the end of the day, when youve got to make a call," he added. "And Im feeling good. But even though Im saying I feel good, its still a ease in-type of process that we have to go through. Im fine with that." Schiano spoke of mileposts between now and the season opener. "Going up against another guy would be a big one. Right now its all independent movements against air. Then you get into a team setting, then you get into a padded team setting. You get into a live setting, then if you do play him in a preseason game, that probably would be the biggest milepost other than opening day," Schiano said. "Step by step. I dont know whats exactly going to happen. None of us do," the coach added. "But he looked good today." Cheap Air Max Wholesale . PETERSBURG, Fla. Cheap Wholesale Air Max Shoes . ASHBURN, Va. -- Despite losing twice at home, and facing all sorts of problem areas, Washington Redskins coach Jay Gruden wants everyone to stay positive and understand we still have 14 games left and believe that all our goals are still reachable. If those phrases make him sound as if hes living in denial, there is no denying this: A loss next Sunday at the New York Giants (2-0) would leave Washington in a big hole in the NFC East, three games out of first place just three games into the season. To be 0-2 at home -- losing to the Cowboys, losing to the Steelers -- is kind of a shock to everybody, Gruden said Monday. We expected great things this year. We still do.A year after winning their division behind a career season from Kirk Cousins, the Redskins have reason to wonder what is going on with the QB . He has one touchdown pass and three interceptions, including an end-zone pick on third-and-goal from the 6 in the fourth quarter of Sundays 27-23 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.Hes not going to be perfect every week, thats for sure. And no quarterbacks are. Its just a matter of handling his business, going into work the next day and continuing to get better, Gruden said. Keep his head up and stay confident, stay poised.Gruden continued: Sometimes he puts a lot on himself. He puts a lot of pressure on himself. He wants to be great, theres no question about it. And sometimes, if he feels like hes not playing to the standards that we all have set for him, he feels like hes letting everybody down. There have been problems in the red zone. And on third downs. Cousins passer rating of 78.5 ranks 27th in the league. He has not been very accurate: Against Dallas, Cousins overthrew wide-open receivers DeSean Jackson and Jamison Crowder on plays that very easily could have been TDs.It wasnt good enough, obviously, Cousins acknowledged. I neeed to play better.ddddddddddddNo quarterback has thrown more often than Cousins 89 attempts through two games (Jacksonvilles Blake Bortles has the same number), and Washington has run the ball a grand total of 29 times, a division of labor that might not serve the Redskins well against the Giants revamped defense .Were not happy with the run-pass balance. Based on the numbers, were obviously not a `run-first team. Id be standing up here looking like a fool if I said were a `pound the rock-type team right now, Gruden said. First two games, the proof is in the pudding, the numbers. In addition to sounding an optimistic tone Monday, Gruden did say there is plenty his players and coaching staff needed to improve -- on offense and defense.Weve just got to do a better job communicating on defense, making sure were in the right spot, getting the calls out to the defensive backs, linebackers, defensive line. Offensively, making sure we know exactly where to go with the ball, when to go to it, and just do a better job of letting the players know what were trying to accomplish with each play call, both (on) offense and defense, the coach said. The players have got to understand what were doing and do it to the best of their ability.Game notes NT Kedric Golston went on IR after injuring his right hamstring on the first play from scrimmage against Dallas. In other moves, Washington brought up rookie DL Matt Ioannidis from the practice squad and added three players to the practice squad: LBs Jason Fanaika and Amarlo Herrera, and DL Bobby Richardson.---Online:AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and AP NFL Twitter feed: www.twitter.com/AP-NFL---Follow Howard Fendrich on Twitter at http://twitter.com/HowardFendrich cheap falcons jerseys cheap ravens jerseys cheap bills jerseys cheap bears jerseys cheap bengals jerseys cheap cowboys jerseys cheap lions jerseys cheap texans jerseys cheap colts jerseys cheap jaguars jerseys cheap chiefs jerseys cheap rams jerseys cheap dolphins jerseys cheap vikings jerseys cheap saints jerseys cheap giants jerseys cheap jets jerseys cheap eagles jerseys cheap steelers jerseys cheap 49ers jerseys ' ' '
