AUBURN, Ala. -- The No. 12 Auburn soccer team fell in the 2016 season opener to No. 14 Clemson in a battle of top-15 programs, 2-0, on Friday night. Auburn (0-1-0) recorded 12 shots on the evening at the Auburn Soccer Complex.Casie Ramsier paved the way on offense with a total of four shots in a full 90 minutes of action. Fellow midfielders Brooke Ramsier and Courtney Schell each tallied a pair of shots and went the distance on the pitch.In the net, Sarah Le Beau racked up four saves, including two diving attempts split into each half.Clemson (1-0-0) opened the scoring in the first half just nine minutes in on a volley from a cross put into the box.With the road team holding a 1-0 advantage, there was a stoppage of play in the 23rd minute due to lightning in the surrounding area.Once play resumed, Auburn came out firing. The home team rattled off back-to-back shots from Dani Solaru and Schell, but the Clemson defense kept things were they stood at 1-0.Auburn was able to set up a pair of corners in the second half leading to attempts on goal, but not before Clemson doubled its lead at 2-0.Despite a late charge from Auburn, the score remained the same and sent the Tigers to just their fourth home-opening loss all-time.Auburn has a quick turnaround when it travels to Mobile, Ala. for a duel with South Alabama.
