CLEVELAND -- Quickly running out of season, the Detroit Tigers picked a terrible time to have a messy game. They made three errors, gave Cleveland a gift, two-run double in the first inning and lost for the 12th time in 13 games to the Indians, 11-4 on Friday night to fall seven games behind the AL Central leaders. They just stuck it to us, Tigers manager Brad Ausmus. They were better than us.They have been all year.Justin Upton hit a pair of homers and drove in four runs for the Tigers, who have been outscored 90-40 by the Indians this season. Detroit, which is also trailing in the wild-card race, has six games left with Cleveland. But based on the first 13 matchups, it doesnt appear the Tigers are anywhere close to turning things in their favor.Really where they beat us is that their offense has killed us, Ausmus said. Theyve scored runs and weve got to find a way to stop them from scoring runs.Mike Napoli hit a gift two-run double in the first inning -- on a ball left fielder Upton lost in the dusk sky -- off rookie Michael Fulmer (10-7) and added a towering two-run homer in the fifth that bounced out of Progressive Field as the Indians lowered the magic number for clinching their first division title since 2007 to nine.Corey Kluber (17-9) worked seven innings, keeping the top of Detroits lineup in check and setting the tone for the Indians biggest series this season. The right-hander is 8-1 in 12 starts since the All-Star break and remains the one pitcher in the rotation Cleveland can count on.Kluber improved to 3-0 in three starts this season against Detroit.Hes got over 200 strikeouts, more than a strikeout an inning, and a Cy Young in his trophy case, Ausmus said. Hes a good pitcher, plain and simple. The Tigers were lacking in fundamentals and missed another chance to gain ground on the Indians, who have led the division since June 4. This was the first of seven games between the rivals over the next two weeks and the Indians made sure the Tigers didnt get any closer or gain any momentum. The Indians took a 2-0 lead in the first on a strange play. With runners at second and third, Napoli hit a fly ball with one out to deep left that Upton never tracked off the bat. As Upton helplessly looked skyward and drifted aimlessly toward the line, Napolis shot, which should have been a sacrifice fly, bounced on the warning track and over the 19-foot-high wall for a two-run double. It wasnt a pretty game, Upton said. If you play good baseball and lose, thats one thing. We didnt play good baseball.Napolis 34th homer gave the Indians a 6-1 lead.Jason Kipnis was on second with one out when Napoli, who proudly says he swings as hard as he can, whenever he can, sent a 2-2 pitch soaring over the wall in left. None of the fans was able to catch it on the fly and it ricocheted off the sidewalk, over the fence and into the plaza behind the ballpark.Uptons three-run homer in the sixth pulled the Tigers within 6-4, but the Indians tacked on a run in their half before Kluber retired Miguel Cabrera with a runner at third to end the seventh. Detroits first three hitters -- Ian Kinsler, Cameron Maybin and Cabrera -- went 0 for 11 with a walk off Kluber.TAMED TIGERSDetroit is just 2-18 in its last 20 against the Indians.UPTON FUNKUpton has 13 career multi-homer games, three this season. He has six homers in September.TRAINERS ROOMTigers: RHP Jordan Zimmerman, who has been battling a strained neck most of the season, will throw a side session Saturday. He has started twice since June 30, allowing six runs in one inning against Baltimore on Sept. 10.UP NEXTTigers: RHP Justin Verlander is 0-3 with a 9.18 ERA in three starts against Cleveland this season. Hes 9-14 with a 5.61 ERA in 25 career starts at Progressive Field.Indians: RHP Carlos Carrasco looks to bounce back after going just 3 2/3 innings in his previous start at Chicago on Sunday. Hes 2-0 with a 0.51 ERA in three starts against the Tigers in 2016.Cheap Air Max Plus China . Fernandez, coached in Toronto by former two-time Olympic silver medallist Brian Orser, scored 267.11 points and is the first champion to successfully defend since Russias Evgeny Plushenko in 2005 and 2006. Cheap Air Max Plus . In Europe, top teams seem to be largely happy with their squads after spending nearly $1 billion in the off-season. And although English league clubs are unlikely to splash cash in January, Arsenal and Chelsea could be tempted to strengthen their squads with new strikers. http://www.cheapairmaxplus.net/ . -- The boos poured down on Tom Brady and the New England Patriots at the end of a horrible first half. Cheap Air Max Plus Mens . -- The Bishops Gaiters are showing they belong among the countrys top varsity football teams. Air Max Plus On Sale . -- If this was Aaron Gordons final home game at Arizona, and it almost certainly was, then he went out in style.OAKLAND, Calif. -- Mariners right-hander Felix Hernandez lost his pitching groove in his past two starts, but history tells us hell be at the right place to get it back Saturday afternoon when he faces the Oakland As at the Oakland Coliseum.Hernandez is 11-3 with a 2.92 ERA in 22 career starts at the Coliseum. Overall against the As, hes 22-8 with a 2.67 ERA in 42 career starts.Hernandez is 10-5 with a 3.75 ERA this season, but in his past two starts, both against the Texas Rangers, he went 1-1 with an 11.17 ERA, allowing 12 runs on 10 hits and walking eight in 9 2/3 innings. Hernandez gave up six runs and walked four over 5 2/3 innings Monday in a 14-6 victory against the Rangers. He had some (command) issues, Mariners manager Scott Servais said Friday before Seattles 3-2 victory against Oakland in the series opener. Kind of got away from him in one inning. He threw 48 or 49 pitches. Very un-Felix like. He did hang in there and get through it. Its been a really weird year for him I think, even from the start of the season before the injury. The command, the walks have been up, bottom line. Its not typical of him, but hes found a way to keep us in games. You look up, hes got 10 wins now. Hes done what we needed him to do. It just hasnt been the over-the-top domination performances that were used to seeing.Hernandez went on the disabled list on June 1, retroactive to May 28, with a strained right calf and missed 43 games. Since coming off the DL on July 20, hes gone 6-1 with a 4.62 ERA in starts over 64 1/3 innings. He allowed 56 hits, including 10 home runs, struck out 54 and walked 30 during that span.I think the consistency of his curveball has maybe not been as good, Servais said. Thats always been there for him. Some outings its better than others. Thats the one pitch that probably hasnt been as consistent. The changeups still there. Its a matter if they can lay off it or not.The Mariners pulled to within 3 1/2 games of Baltimore and Detroit for the second wild-card playoff spot in the American League.Gaining more ground Saturday could be a challenge when thhey face right-hander Kendall Graveman (10-9), the As hottest pitcher.dddddddddddd Over his past six starts, Graveman went 4-2 with a 1.93 ERA. He struck out 21 and walked six over 42 innings during that stretch.Gravemans worst start during that span came against the Mariners on Aug. 13 in a 4-3 loss at the Coliseum. He allowed four runs on four hits, including first-pitch home runs to Robinson Cano and Nelson Cruz, over six innings.I thought I threw the ball well, all except a couple of pitches there, Graveman said.Graveman will make his team- and career-high 28th start of the season. Hes the only member of the As original rotation who hasnt missed a start and hasnt spent time on the disabled list.Based on the fact weve had so many guys go down, and to have the stability of a guy making every start and giving the team the confidence they have when he takes the mound is paramount, As manager Bob Melvin said. But for him to know he can go through a season like this and get stronger as the season went along, knock wood, hes done his best work here the last month, and is going deeper in games, too. Thats something thats difficult to do over the course of the season and it speaks to his conditioning, how he takes care of himself. Because a lot of times this time of year guys are going the other direction, and he seems to be getting better and better. After going 1-6 with a 5.36 ERA in his first nine starts, Graveman has gone 9-3 with a 3.18 ERA over his past 18.Graveman is 0-2 with a 5.40 ERA in three starts against the Mariners this season and 1-2 with a 3.71 ERA for his career. Gravemans lone win against Seattle came last season on July 4 at the Coliseum in his lone career start against Hernandez.Graveman pitched seven shutout innings in a 2-0 victory, while Hernandez allowed two runs over seven innings and took the tough loss. Its going to be a good matchup, Graveman said. Theyve been playing some good baseball over there. Im excited. ' ' '
