Lance Franklin looks to be hitting top form at the right time, as he prepares to return to the AFLs biggest stage..A mental health issue meant the gifted forward didnt participate in Sydneys disappointing 2015 finals campaign in which they lost both their games. However, Franklin looks to be in good shape mentally and physically after playing in every home and away game for the first time in his three seasons with Sydney. He has kicked 74 goals and provided he stays injury-free and in good form looks likely to finish with his second biggest season haul behind the 113 he booted for Hawthorn in 2008.After kicking 34 goals in the first eight rounds Franklin had pundits predicting he would become the first man to boot 100 in a season since he achieved the feat back in 2008.The goals didnt exactly dry up for Buddy from that point, but 27 majors in his next 11 matches ensured the coveted century mark wouldnt be attained in the home and away season. But the codes most flamboyant player turned on the fireworks again in the run to the finals, bettering his season-best game haul of five twice in the last three rounds. He produced a six-goal blitz against against St Kilda, supplementing that with a career-high 28 disposals.Franklin endured just his second goalless game of the season the following week against North Melbourne.Swans fans had nothing to worry about as he turned on a show in the final round home fixture against Richmond. He booted seven goals, several of them on champion Tigers defender Alex Rance, and snared a personal season-high 11 marks, just two less than his career best. Not for the first time this season it wasnt Franklins goal output which drew the most praise from coach John Longmire, who lauded his star forward for his efforts throughout the season.Hes been good the entire year, I thought his pressure was outstanding tonight, Longmire said after Saturdays 113-point rout of Richmond at the SCG.It wasnt about just the goals, he was working really hard up putting enormous pressure on.He was up and and down the ground; hes been terrific.Im sure hes really looking forward to it (the finals).LANCE FRANKLINS BIGGEST SEASON GOAL HAULS*113 (2008)*82 (2011)*79 (2014)*74 (2016)#*73 (2007)*69 (2012)*67 (2009)*64 (2010)*60 (2013)#season not finished. Uggla, hitting only .186 with a National League-leading 146 strikeouts, has battled eye problems throughout the season and has experimented with contact lenses. Uggla said the eye surgery "was a mutual decision." "Obviously, I dont want to go on the DL whatsoever, but at the same time weve got to do whats best for the team right now," he said. "Ive been struggling pretty bad and battling with the contacts and grinding with these things day in and day out. I think the best thing to do it go ahead and so it now." Until Tuesday, Ugglas goal had been to postpone the procedure until the off-season. "They approached me with it today and as much as I wanted to argue and be like You cant do this, at the same time theres got to be production out there on that field and I havent been doing it," Uggla said. "So its tough for me to make an argument when I want to do whats right for this team." Uggla said he expects to have the procedure as soon as possible and miss only two weeks. Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said Uggla will have time to adjust before the post-season. The Braves lead the NL East by 14 games.dddddddddddd "When this procedure works, and I do say when because of the success rate, we may see a guy who all of a sudden is a new player," Gonzalez said. "So thats encouraging for me." Tyler Pastornicky was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett and will start at second base in Tuesday nights game against the Phillies. Gonzalez said veteran utility infielder Paul Janish may be used as a late-inning defensive replacement for Pastornicky. Uggla hit .250 in June and has been below .200 every other month this season. His struggles got worse in August, when he had only two hits in 37 at-bats (.054). Despite the low batting average, Uggla ranks second on the team with 21 homers, good for sixth in the National League, and third with 53 RBIs. He ranks fourth in the NL with 62 walks. Braves catcher Brian McCann has gone through similar vision problems. He had his first Lasik surgery in 2007 and had another procedure he called an "enhancement" in 2010. McCann also tried contacts before finally opting for the surgery. McCann, who is Ugglas clubhouse neighbour, said the second baseman "exhausted every avenue" with contacts and different eye drops. "I think this is the best thing for him," McCann said. "I think its going to work."
