Former moguls world champion Guilbaut Colas of France is out of the Olympics due to a knee injury. The 30-year-old Colas sustained the injury during a training crash on Sunday. Colas was attempting to go over the final jump on the difficult course at Rosa Khutor Extreme Park when he landed awkwardly and tore the ACL in his left knee. The 2011 world champion hasnt skied regularly since 2011. A back injury forced him to miss the 2012-13 season and he had just one Top 10 finish in the run-up to Sochi. Colas is a two-time Olympic veteran. He finished sixth in Vancouver in 2010 and 10th in Turin in 2006. T.J. Buehrle lost for the first time in seven decisions on Saturday to St. Louis, but it was through no fault of his own, as he was again tremendous, surrendering one run and five hits in seven innings. However, he did walk five batters and fell to 10-2, despite lowering his ERA a tick to 2.04. The 35-year-old left-handers resurgence has been a big reason why the Blue Jays sit atop the American League East standings. "We go out there and win a few games, try to win a series, thats how we have to go from here on out," said Buehrle. "Not really a scoreboard watcher or look at what other teams are doing, just go out there and try to take care of yourself. Hopefully were at first place at the end of the year, but we have a long way to go." Buehrle is a perfect 5-0 with a stingy 1.47 ERA away from home this season. One of those wins came in Baltimore back on April 13, but hes 8-8 with a 3.31 ERA in 20 career starts against the Os. Toronto will be looking to get itself right on Thursday, as it enters this series on the heels of dropping four of five after a 7-2 loss to the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday. Jose Bautista had two hits, drove in a run and scored a run for the Blue Jays, who had won 15 of 17 before this rough patch. Toronto, though, still holds a 4 1/2-game edge on the Orioles and Yankees in the division. "I thinkk weve cooled off pretty good, pretty much top to bottom in the lineup .dddddddddddd.. but thats the way it goes," manager John Gibbons said. "The key is you cant prolong the struggles. Youve got to put an end to them. The bats will heat up again, hopefully sooner than later." Baltimore will try to make up some ground behind young righty Kevin Gausman, who is coming off the best showing of his career. The 23-year-old former first round pick earned his first win as a starter on Saturday, as he held the Oakland Athletics to a run and four hits over seven innings to even his record at 1-1, while, lowering his ERA almost seven runs to 4.91. "If he pitches next time like he pitched last time, I view him as a starter," Showalter said. Baltimore comes into this series after taking two of three from the Boston Red Sox. In Wednesdays rubber match, Chris Davis hit a two-run homer to back seven scoreless innings from Wei-Yin Chen, as Baltimore rolled, 6-0. Chen (7-2) gave up four hits while striking out a season-high seven batters for the Orioles, who bounced back from a 1-0 loss on Tuesday. Adam Jones, Nick Hundley, Jonathan Schoop and Nick Markakis each knocked in a run. WASHINGTON -- By the time Danny Espinosa hit his two-run homer in the eighth inning, there were only a couple of hundred fans left in the ballpark, almost all of them congregated behind the two dugouts. A couple of times there was an ad hoc chant-off between the ones in red down the first base line and those in blue on the other side. "You can hear every word at that point," Espinosa said. "Its like a back-field spring training game." Anthony Rendon hit a two-run homer in the first inning Monday night, and -- thanks to an odd-moving storm that produced an interminable rain delay -- Espinosa and the Washington Nationals didnt finish off the Los Angeles Dodgers until some six hours later on Tuesday morning, holding on for a 4-0 victory and gaining sole possession of first place in the NL East. Jordan Zimmerman pitched four shutout innings before the game was halted, and five relievers threw an inning apiece after play resumed. In between, there was an interruption of 3 hours, 17 minutes while a narrow, cigar-shaped storm took its time soaking D.C. and not much else. "You certainly wait around that long, you want to win the game," Nationals manager Matt Williams said. Aaron Barrett (2-0) got the win mainly because he happened to be Washingtons first reliever when play resumed. Zack Greinke (5-1) got a hard-luck first loss of the season, and plate umpire John Tumpane became the MVP for calling strikes and getting the game done in a reasonable hurry once the tarp was removed. There were four strikeouts before the delay, 16 after it. "We dont get off to a good start, they get a couple quick runs, and then obviously a three-hour delay in there and lose Zack," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said. "Really, we had chances, we just didnt do anything." The rain limited Greinke to three innings, ending a streak that had been unmatched for a century. He had 18 consecutive regular-season starts of at least five innings while allowing two runs or fewer -- the longest such run in the majors since 1914. "Its not really like its an important streak; no one really cares about it anyway," Greinke said. "If it was like a consecutive win streak or something more important than that, it would mean a little more." Dodgers slugger Yasiel Puig sat out the marathon, still sore after crashing into an outfield wall in the ninth inning of Sundays 5-4 road loss to the Miami Marlins. Manager Don Mattingly said Puig remained day to day and declined to say directly whether a concussion has been ruled out. Nationals left fielder Nate McLouth had his own crash-into-wall injury in the eighth inning, when he made a sliding backhand catch of a foul ball. Both hands and both knees hit the wall hard, and his right hand was bleeding as he walked off the field. Williams said McLouth wasnt seriously hurt. The cut didnt require stitches, although a banged-up knee will almost certainly be sore for a while. Zimmermann held the fort until the middle of the fourth, when the dozens of bags of sands poured on the infield by the grounds crew were no longer a match for the weather. The fans who stayed behind were treated to a scoreboard broadcast of their city-sports-brethren Washington Wizards winning an NBA playoff game. Also shown during the delay was the Atlanta Braves loss to the St. Louis Cardinals, which helped the Nationals vault into first in the division. The fans who remained when play resumed had unusually good odds when it came to chasing a foul ball, or catching a T-shirt tossed into the stands as part of a standard promotion. "Fans are going crazy," Zimmermann said. "Its a game, you have to play no matter how many fans are out there. The place wasnt exactly rocking, but it was a game we had to play." BOSTON -- With both Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook sitting out for the first time since the franchise set up shop in Oklahoma City, the Thunder needed about a half to figure things out. And then the Western Conference leaders put the lottery-bound Boston Celtics away. "We take pride in playing hard no matter whos on the floor," coach Scott Brooks said after his team went on a 17-2 third-quarter run to beat Boston 101-83 on Friday night. "Obviously, were a better team with Kevin and Russell. But it doesnt make us not a team." Durant, the NBA scoring leader, missed his first game of the season, joining fellow All-Star Westbrook on the bench. That was only a minor setback, with Serge Ibaka scoring nine of his 21 points and adding five rebounds in the pivotal third quarter to lead Oklahoma City to its sixth straight victory. Jeremy Lamb came off the bench to score 19 points, and Reggie Jackson had 14 points and eight assists. "Everybodys just got to do their job a little bit better and a little bit harder," said Thunder centre Kendrick Perkins, a former Celtic, who had nine rebounds. "Its our first time playing without both of them, so it was good." Durant was the franchises first pick in 2007, its final year as the Seattle SuperSonics, and Westbrook was their first-round pick after the team moved to Oklahoma City for the following season. Together, they led the Thunder to the 2012 NBA Finals and were poised for another deep run last year before Westbrook was injured in the first round series against Houston. Oklahoma City has managed to stay atop the West with Westbrook out since Christmas to recover from right knee surgery. And Durant has been the reason, going on a scoring tear with at least 30 points in nine consecutive games before sitting out Friday night. But Durant watched this one from the bench in warmups, then was icing his right shoulder in the locker room after the game, joking around with Westbrook. "Theyre a good team without him -- as you can see," Celtics guard Phil Pressey said. Brooks said he did not know if his star would return on Saturday night against Philadelphia. "Well see how he wakes up," the coach said. Jeff Green scored 16 points and Gerald Wallace scored 12 of his 13 points in the first half, before the Thunder pulled away with a 17-2 run in the third quarter. Rajon Rondo had eight assists and five points in his fifth game since returning from reconstructive knee surgery. The Celtics have lost 13 of 15 games. "Theyre down Kevin Durant, and I think their team is thinking OK, this is an opportunity for a lot of guys that dont play as much when hes playing minutes," Celtics centre Kris Humphries said. "Something happened. You guys all saw the game. It wasnt great. Thanks for staying for the whole game." The Thunder allowed the Celtics to open a five-point lead early in the second quarter but then scored 18 of the next 22 points to take a nine-point lead. It was a two-point game after Boston scored the first basket of the second half, but Oklahoma City opened a 60-53 lead and then scored 17 of the next 19 points. In all, Oklahoma City outscored the Celtics 27-13 in the third. Notes: Rondo became the sixth player in Celtics history to reach the 4,000-assist plateau. Bill Russell is next, with 4,100. ... Contract details were not immediately available, but Brown was paid more than $5 million per season. Gasparro said there was no timetable on a decision by Strong, who is 37-15 with the Cardinals, including 3-1 in bowl games. "Its a difficult decision for him," Gasparro said. The Detroit Red Wings are looking to find a quick solution to their recent struggles on the road, and their schedule is offering that opportunity. After losing the opener of this six-game trip, the Red Wings attempt to continue their dominance of the NHL-worst Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday night. Detroit (20-10-9) has dropped three of four games on the road, giving up the first goal in each of the last three. That was the case Saturday, when Jimmy Howard allowed the first two tallies en route to a 4-1 loss at Vancouver. We cant seem to get started on the road at all, coach Mike Babcock told the teams official website. So that responsibility lies with me but also with our leadership group and our whole room. Its not good enough. Its not good enough to be unprepared to do your job. That hasnt been the case anywhere against the Oilers (9-22-9), as the Red Wings are 13-0-1 in their last 14 meetings while winning six straight with an 18-6 scoring edge. Theyve claimed 11 of 12 points in their last six visits to Rexall Place, winning the most recent 5-0 on Nov. 2, 2013. Tomas Tatar was one of five Red Wings to find the net in that matchup, and he converted the only successful shootout attempt in a 2-1 home win against Edmonton on March 14. The left wing has 10 goals in his past 12 road games, getting one in each of the last two. Tatars team-leading 16 goals are three shy of his total last season. Gustav Nyquist is just behind Tatar with 15 goals, but he has just four on the road. The right wing assisted on Tatars tally Saturday, giving him seven points in his past five overall. Howard, who had 20 saves against the Canucks, will likely be back in net since hes won 10 straight starts against Edmonton behind a 1.37 goals-against average. While the Oilers own the fewest points in the league, theyre 7-4-1 against the Eastern Conference and scored three times in the third period en route to a 5-2 win over the New York Islanders on Sunday. Theyre 2-0-2 in four games since interim head coach Todd Nelson took sole possession of the Oilers bench In order for players to play a system thats a bit new to them, they have to have trust in the coach, Nelson said. A lot of these guys Ive worked with before, and I was able to establish that with them. Its following suit with the rest of the players. I like the way were applying the things were trying to teach out there, and its getting better every day. It always pays off when you win. Its only been four games where we got points, but its a start. Jordan Eberle and Matt Hendricks likely share that sentiment. Eberle has a point in three straight games after getting two over the previous nine, while Hendricks two goals Sunday was one fewer than his total over his first 34 contests. Eberle has three goals in five home meetings with Detroit, but none in the past two. Viktor Fasth gets the start in goal for the Oilers. Fran Tarkenton Youth Jersey . ST. CALGARY - The Calgary Stampeders offensive line made room for Jon Cornish to run for 175 yards and four touchdowns the last time the Saskatchewan Roughriders visited McMahon Stadium. Then Calgarys offensive linemen held CFL sack leader Alex Hall to zero sacks when the Winnipeg Blue Bombers came to town earlier this month. Can they continue their success Saturday, now that Hall is a Roughrider following his trade from Winnipeg? A 42-27 loss to Calgary on Aug. 9 was an anomaly for a Saskatchewan defensive line that was talented enough before Halls arrival Oct. 6. Saskatchewan is tied for second in the CFL in sacks with Montreal and ranks second in stopping the rush. The Roughriders defence contributed to 28 points scored off turnovers in a 35-14 win over the B.C. Lions last Saturday. "Their front four, front five now that Alex Hall has joined the club, theyre great run defenders and pass rushers," Calgary head coach John Hufnagel said Monday following the Stampeders team photo. "Its going to be a big challenge for our offence to be able to run the ball efficiently and effectively and protect our passers." Calgary (13-3) and Saskatchewan (11-5) have already secured home playoff dates, so its now a matter of who hosts the division semifinal Nov. 10 or the final Nov. 17. Calgary can secure first in the West Division with a win or a tie Saturday. Saskatchewan can extend the race for first place to the last week of the regular season with a victory. Calgary and Saskatchewan are 1-1 against each other this season, so Saturdays victor would get the higher playoff seed in the event theyre tied in points at the conclusion of the regular season. "Truthfully, Im very pleased this game means something for both teams," Hufnagel said. "Itll get us playoff ready." Calgarys Charleston Hughes has pulled even with Hall for the league lead in sacks (15). Stampeder defensive end Cordarro Law is second with 12. But Saskatchewans John Chick, the CFLs defensive player of the year in 2009, Tearrius George, Jermaine McElveen and Ricky Foley can be hard on opposing offensive lines with a combined 29 quarterback tackles between them. While acknowledging Saskatchewans prowess on the defensive line, the Stampeders arent prepared to say the Roughrider front four with Hall will be their toughest test this season. "I think Saskatchewans defensive line is a huge strength for them," Stampeder tackle Edwin Harrison said. "Any time you can add a player like Alex Hall to your unit, you get an immediate upgrade as a unit. "I dont want to say we dont look at our opponent, but every game is a big game. Every game we have somebody who is a quality opponent. "It will definitely be a huge test for us, an important test for us, but it will be a huge test and a huge game for our team because its the next game. Make no mistakes, this team, it doesnt matter who we play." Calgary leads the CFL in fewest sacks against and most rushing yards, a testament to the offensive lines performance. Theyve done it with a rotating cast of characters, because the offensive line wasnt exempt from the injuries besetting the Stampeders at almost every position this season. Harrison began this season on the nine-game injured list because of a lingering knee injury. The latest ailment is left tackle Stanley Bryant, who is questionable for Saturdays game with a knee injury. Right tackle Dan Federkeil moves back into the lineup after missing five games with a groin injury, but right guard Dimitri Tsoumpas remains sidelined with a concussion. JMichael Deane and Spencer Wilson have rotated in where needed on the right side. Rookie centre Brett Jones and guard Jon Gott are the only two linemen who have managed to stay in games week to week. Harrison says a lot of homework goes into adapting to personnel changes almost every week. "Every guy in our group does an outstanding job of preparing themselves to play each and every week," he said. "I dont think a lot of people know how much time we put in, not only on the practice field, but in the meeting room and at home. "As an offensive line, if everybody in that room isnt on the same page, we will not be successful." How significant is Calgarys containment of Hall on Oct. 5 and the dismantling of the Riders defensive line in August heading into Saturdays game? Not very, offensive line coach Mike Gibson said. "Those games didnt define who we are," he said. "Our body of work is defined by who we are. They were part of it no doubt. "Were first in the league in rushing, were first in the league in the least sacks and that wouldnt happen with just two games. We see good defences week in and week out and we just have to be prepared to play." Chase Litton Jersey . Jones took a beating, the worst one of his record reign, in a bout against Alexander Gustafsson that knocked the light heavyweight champion on the canvas for the first time in his career and put his belt in jeopardy. Anthony Sherman Jersey . The same for both the Calgary Flames and the Edmonton Oilers. http://www.cheapchiefsjerseysauthentic.c...tim-ward-jersey. With the win, the Marlies complete a three-game series sweep of the Admirals and move on to the second round of the Calder Cup playoffs. T.J. Brennan added an empty netter with less than 25 seconds remaining for his second of the playoffs. John Lovett Jersey . "Im going to send Webbie a six-pack (of beer) tonight," she said. Webb wasnt sure that would help. "Ill probably drink one and go to sleep," the Australian veteran said. The two players set up a Sunday showdown between former HSBC champions after finishing off their third rounds with identical birdies over three of the last five holes Saturday to separate themselves slightly from the rest of the crowded leaderboard. Rashard Davis Jersey . The 19-year-old from Westmount, Que., was edged 7-5, 6-7 (5), 6-3 by third-seeded Alize Cornet of France. Cornet broke Bouchard twice in the last set and saved six break points in the three-hour match. SYLVAN LAKE, Alta. -- Sven Baertschi knows he has to back up a smart decision and a pivotal goal with many more of both to be a regular in the NHL. The Calgary Flames forward scored with nine seconds remaining in the second period Wednesday to deadlock a pre-season game against the Arizona Coyotes. After a scoreless third, Curtis Glencross scored the overtime winner for Calgary in a 4-3 victory in Sylvan Lake, Alta. Baertschi came off his final major junior season to join the Flames playing out the string in 2012. Calgarys first-round pick and the No. 13 selection in 2011 inflated expectations with three goals in his first five games with the team. The 21-year-old Swiss forward has played more games in the American Hockey League than with the parent club in the two seasons since then. When Brian Burke joined the Flames a year ago as president of hockey operations, he wasnt complimentary of Baertschi with comments like "big holes" and "lack of commitment." "I realized a little while ago now, coming into the league, its a different game and every decision you make has got to be the right decision," Baertschi said. "Ive been working on it really hard and doing a lot of video. Its the little details out there I want to do right. "I think Im making some really good decisions with the puck. Im not being selfish out there, but Im trying to hold onto the puck a little longer. Its something Ive been working on all summer, so its paying off now. "I want to prove I can play in this league." Sylvan Lake won this years Kraft Hockeyville contest, which included a grant of $100,000 for arena upgrades, as well as the right to host an NHL pre-season game. The community of 13,000 is just west of Red Deer. With a capacity of just under 1,000, the Sylvan Lake Multi-Plex was full and speckled with a few blue Oilers jerseys among red Flames shirts. Local products Glencross and defenceman Kris Russell added to the sense of occasion by combining on the overtime winner. Glencross, who grew up in Prevost, re-directed Russells shot from the blue-line for a power-play goal at 3:50. Russell is from nearby Caroline. The roof of the aging Sylvan Lake Arena next door to the Multi-Plex collapsed in January. The city intends to raise $2 million for a multiplex redevelopment project. "Russ and I both skated in the old barn quite a bit back in the day," Glencross said. "He made a great shot and I got lucky enough to get my stick on it." Deryk Engelland and Brian McGrattan also scored for the Flames, who are 2-1-0 in the pre-season. "I told the players this morning remember those people coming to the game, they had to fight real hard to get this game," Flames head coach Bob Hartley said. "Im sure there were lotss of other great cities that could have this game and since its very close to our market, I think we owed this game to the fans.dddddddddddd" B.J. Crombeen had a goal and an assist and Matt Kassian and Joe Vitale also scored for Arizona. Defenceman Chris Summers had two assists, but was serving a holding penalty when Glencross scored the winner. Calgary killed off three Arizona power-play chances in the third period and to start overtime. Arizona goalie Mike McKenna stopped 25 of 28 shots through two periods in his first pre-season action. Brendan Burke turned aside seven of eight in the third and overtime. Burke is the son of Arizona goaltending coach Sean Burke, who played 18 seasons in the NHL. After 11 saves on 14 shots, Calgarys Joni Ortio was replaced after two periods by Doug Carr, who stopped all 12 he faced in the third and extra period. McKenna got a piece of Baertschis sharp-angled shot as the second period wound down, but the puck trickled under the goaltenders arm and into the net. "A game like tonight, I think I was really comfortable and didnt make too many bad decisions," Baertschi said. "For me, one of the things Ive been working on is figuring out when to pass and when to shoot. Thats a big part of decision making. At that point, I knew I didnt have any support coming from behind and it went in and I was happy." Arizona led 3-2 at 3:06 when Brandon Gormleys shot from the top of the face-off circle deflected off Crombeens leg and into Calgarys net. Flames enforcer McGrattan scored at 1:59 when he banked in a goal-mouth pass from Markus Granlund. With Calgary trailing 2-0, Edmonton native Engelland threaded a high wrist shot through traffic to halve the deficit with a power-play goal at 19:06. Arizonas Vitale batted a rebound out of the air by Ortio at 12:58. Kassian, another Edmontonian invited to Arizonas camp on a try-out contract, also scored on a rebound from the slot at 8:56. The Coyotes finished one spot out of a playoff berth last season at 37-30-15, while the Flames were well out of the post-season at 35-40-7. "We all know and it doesnt really mean nothing right now, but we played 49 games last year decided by one goal," Hartley said. "I keep repeating to our guys, we have to keep making big strides and learning to win those types of games. Come Game 1 of the regular season, whatever we will have done here as a result will not count, but if we can learn those little details well be a better team." Wednesda

(SportsNetwork.com) - The top of the NFL marquee will read Peyton Manning versus Tom Brady this week. For the 16th time in their legendary careers the NFLs equivalent to Bird and Magic or perhaps Ali and Frazier will tangle on Sunday when the New England Patriots entertain the Denver Broncos at Gillette Stadium. Brady has generally had the edge in the personal rivalry between the two, going 10-5 against Mannings Colts and now Broncos. Things have tightened up in the head-to-head battle over recent years, however, and Peyton has posted a 5-4 mark in his last nine matchups with Brady, including a 26-16 win in last seasons AFC Championship Game. Manning-Brady XVI will also mark the first game in NFL history where both starting QBs have earned 150-or-more regular-season wins. At the end of the day, its Broncos versus Patriots, Denver head coach John Fox said, trying to downplay the personal issue. Brady, though, understands how others will frame the game. Peyton has been a phenomenal player - so consistent and durable for a long period of time, Brady said. Weve had a great rivalry and this year is no different. Indeed the best record in the AFC will be on the line as Mannings Broncos lead the AFC West with a 6-1 mark and Brady and Co, own the AFC East with a 6-2 record. The Pats have won four straight overall, including last weekends 51-23 drubbing of Chicago in which Brady threw touchdown passes on five of New Englands first six drives. Brady finished 30-of-35 for 354 yards in his best performance of the season. Rob Gronkowski had 149 yards on nine receptions and caught three of Bradys touchdown passes before leaving in the third quarter due to dehydration. Brandon LaFell set career-highs with 11 receptions and 124 receiving yards and had a touchdown grab for New England, which extended its home winning streak to 13 games. The Patriots scored three touchdowns in a 57-second span during a 31-point second quarter. It was good to see the whole team ready to go, playing with that kind of energy and execution, said New England coach Bill Belichick. It was a pretty good day for us out there today. Well have to turn this one around quickly and get ready for Denver. The Broncos, meanwhile, are coming off a 35-21 Week 8 win over AFC West-rival San Diego in which Manning threw three touchdown passes to Emmanuel Sanders. Manning, the reigning and five-time NFL MVP who broke Brett Favres record for most career touchdown passes the week prior against San Francisco, was back it, completing 25- of-35 passes for 286 yards and three touchdowns against the Chargers to bring his career TD total to 513. Sanders caught nine passes for 120 yards for Denver, which has also won four in a row. Demaryius Thomas caught eight passes for 105 yards. Every week we dont know where the ball is going to go, Sanders admitted. The defense really dictates that and what Peyton is seeing. Ronnie Hillman carried the ball 20 times for 109 yards and Juwan Thompson rushed for 24 yards and two scores on seven carries. Denver leads its all-time series with the Pats by a 25-19 margin. WHAT TO WATCH FOR Although Manning holds the advantage over Brady in raw numbers when the two clash, the Patriots have won eight of the 11 regular-season games in which the two superstars have faced each other and split four postseason meetings. Brady has completed 249-of-364 passes for 2,790 yards with 23 TDs and 10 picks in his 11 regular-season efforts versus Manning-led teams with Peyton connecting on 267-of-421 for 3,147 yards with 27 TDs and 14 interceptions in those contests. The postseason numbers are 85-of-136 for 890 yards with four TDs and two picks for Brady, and 109-for-179 for 1,224 and four TDs and six picks for Manning. In other words, its razor close between the two meaning the supporting casts are going to be the key to this one. Brady is concerned with getting off to a fast start because Denver likes to play with the lead and pile on, unloading its pass rush on defense which features the explosive DeMarcus Ware and well as the reigning AFC Defensive Player of the Month Von Miller. Theyve played from ahead, which has been a great advantage for them all season, Brady said. Hopefully we can get off to a fast start and make them play from behind for once, because you dont want to get behind these guys too much. (Miller and Ware) are as good as anybody, he continued. Theyre just dominant, explosive players. Ones got nine sacks, ones got seven sacks. Theyre seven games into the year and theyre putting up record numbers. Theyre phenomenal players. Manning is tied for the NFL lead with 22 TD passes and leads the league with a 119.0 passer rating. Sanders was his favorite target against San Diego and this week it may be back to Demaryius Thomas or Julius Thomas or Wes Welker or anyone else suiting up at a skill position for Denver. Peyton uses all of his options, Belichick said. If theyre open, he throws it to them. Always a perfectionist, though, Manning is a bit upset that Denver ranks just sixth in the NFL in offense, amassing 398.4 yards per game. Its still early in the season, Manning said. Were still trying to figure out some things that were doing well and that were not doing well. The Patriots, on the other hand, may not have the horses they once had but remain relevant because of the stewardship at the top, namely Belichick and Brady. After a slow start Brady has picked things up, winning AFC Offensive Player of the Month honors for October after leading New England to a 4-0 record in the month and completing 100-of-144 passes for 1,268 yards with 14 touchdowns and no interceptions. The high-octane explosiveness probably isnt there any longer with the New England offense but Bradys ability to protect the football has helped generate a plus-11 turnover ratio, tops in the league The Pats have also improved offensively over the pass four weeks due to the reemergence of their tight ends. New England got only 188 total yards from Gronkowski and Co. during their 2-2 start and 601 in four games since. Rob, hes a great target, Brady said. Hes got the size, speed. Hes really become a great route runner himself. Hes really been a real key part of our offense for as long as hes been here. Hes effective on all downs but hes just a big, strong, physical presence and really smart football player. Against Chicago, New Englands top three targets -- LaFell, Gronkowski and Tim Wright -- were thrown at 27 times, resulting in a mind-numbing 27 catches. Denver defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio, though, has significant talent at all three levels. Theyve got all pros at every level of defense, Brady said of the Broncos D. Theyve got an incredible secondary thats playing great this year with a lot of interceptions, playing with a lot of confidence. Linebackers are all really fast and athletic and then they are one of the best D-lines in the NFL. They really force you to play with great execution. OVERALL ANALYSIS The two narratives here are obviously Brady versus Manning and the fact that the Patriots have won 13 straight in Foxborough. But, this is about the supporting casts and Denver looks like it has a little too much talent on both sides of the ball. Its never just one guy, Fox said. This is a team game. There are a lot of moving parts to offense, defense and the kicking game for that matter. Sports Network predicted outcome: Broncos 28, Patriots 24 Andrew Sendejo Jersey . The Leafs dropped a 4-2 decision on Friday to the Philadelphia Flyers, their seventh straight loss, and remain outside of a post-season berth. Carlyle, however, said that his team just needs to clean up the little things and they should be fine with seven games remaining in the regular season. "Theyve proven to us before that they can play the game at a high level," said Carlyle. "If we can tidy up the turnover situation...we got to win more one-on-one battles for the puck. Those are the things at this juncture in the season thats imperative, that we win those battles. And right now were not winning enough." Leafs forward James van Riemsdyk, who scored his 29th goal of the season on Friday, agreed with his coach. "I think our work ethic has been good, we havent quit," said van Riemsdyk. "Weve played hard to the end, sometimes were just not getting the bounces." Vinny Lecavalier, Scott Hartnell, Claude Giroux and Wayne Simmonds scored for the Flyers, while goaltender Steve Mason stopped 32 shots for the win. David Bolland also scored for the Leafs and Jonathan Bernier made 25 saves in defeat. Lecavalier opened the scoring for Philadelphia 5:35 into the first period as Toronto tried to kill off 1:36 of a 5-on-3 power play. Leafs defenceman Dion Phaneuf was forced to take the face-off after centre Jay McClement was tossed from the draw. After Phaneuf lost the faceoff to Giroux, Lecavalier one timed the puck past Bernier after being set up by defenceman Kimmmo Timonen.dddddddddddd "They score a five-on-three goal, our centre gets kicked out, I dont know if we could have covered it differently," said Carlyle. Van Riemsdyk responded for Toronto just four seconds into the second period, tying the NHL record for the fastest goal to start a period. After centre Tyler Bozak won the draw forward, van Riemsdyk skated ahead and put the puck past Mason to even the score. "Bozie made the play pretty much, he decided he was going to push it ahead," said van Riemsdyk. "He made a great play and I just fired it on net." "It was a big spark," Carlyle said of the goal. "We had a lot of momentum for our hockey club but we just werent able to carry it through." Hartnell killed any Toronto momentum when he gave Philadelphia the lead back at 11:03 of the second after a backhand tip on a shot from Timonen. Giroux made it 3-1 at 4:55 of the third period when he fired a slapper from the circle over Berniers right shoulder. Bolland brought the Leafs within a goal at 6:18. Simmonds, however, put the game out of reach at 12:39. "I look at it as we came here to work, we worked hard," said Carlyle. "Were we smart enough in some areas? No. But we gave ourselves a chance." Toronto is in a four-way tie for the two wild card spots in the Eastern Conference, but sit outside a post-season position because of playing more games than any of the other three clubs. One of those teams is the Detroit Red Wings, who the Leafs will face on Saturday. Carlyle knows a win

MONTREAL -- For a second year in a row, the Montreal Alouettes will start the CFL season with a new head coach. Alouettes owner Bob Wetenhall announced Monday that Tom Higgins will be the clubs new head coach. The former Edmonton Eskimos and Calgary Stampeders bench boss replaces general manager Jim Popp, who took over on Aug. 1 when the inexperienced Dan Hawkins was fired only five games into the 2013 season. Wetenhall made it clear in a statement that he did not want Popp, who is considered one of the CFLs best GMs but has a career 16-20 record as a coach, to continue in both jobs. "As Ive expressed to the media in recent weeks, I wanted to continue with the formula which has brought us the success weve enjoyed these past 17 years -- having a full-time head coach and a full-time general manager to fill each of these positions," said Wetenhall. "The criteria we established was to find an individual familiar with the CFL; someone with success in that position and a background as a position coach. In addition, we sought an individual with a record for moulding and delivering championship teams. "In Toms seven years as a head coach he won three division championships along with a Grey Cup, and twice earned recognition as the CFLs coach of the year. His head coaching record of 72-53-1 speaks for itself. We welcome Tom to the Alouettes family." Popp had made no secret of wanting to continue coaching, but Wetenhall put out a statement recently saying candidates would be interviewed. A year ago, the Alouettes waited until Feb. 19 to name Hawkins, a former U.S. university coach with no experience of the Canadian game. He was 2-3 when he was fired with the team in disarray. Popp, the Alouettes GM since they returned to Montreal in 1996, took over as coach for the third time in his career and went 6-7. It marked only the second time since 1996 the team had a losing record, matching the 8-10 mark Popp put up in his only full season as head coach in 2007. It hurt that starting quarterback Anthony Calvillo was lost for the season in August to a concussion. This time, the team waited five days longer to name a new coach and came up with Higgins, who stepped down in December after five years as the CFLs director of officiating. Higgins did not even get introduced at a press conference. The club said "time constraints and personal obligations" prevented bringing him to Montreal for the announcement, but that he will talk to the media Tuesday on a conference call. He takes over a team that will not have CFL all-time passing leader Calvillo as its starter for the first time since 2000. Instead, 2006 Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith and young prospect Tanner Marsh are pegged to replace the retired future Hall of Famer. Higgins, who will turn 60 on July 13, led the Eskimos to 13-5 records twice and won a Grey Cup in 2003 in his four years with the club. He had a 28-25 record in three seasons in Calgary from 2005 to 2007. "Tom has worked with and tutored many of the CFLs finest quarterbacks -- Doug Flutie, Henry Burris and Ricky Ray, to mention a few," said team president Mark Weightman. "His expertise will be invaluable in the development of Troy Smith and Tanner Marsh." Higgins has spent 23 years in various CFL jobs, including a stint as GM in Edmonton. A native of Woodbridge, N.J., and a former linebacker and defensive tackle, Higgins played for Calgary and Saskatchewan in the 1970s. Popp replaced Rod Rust as coach at the end of the 2001 season, but gave way for Don Matthews the following season. He stepped in again when Matthews left for health reasons in 2006. Marc Trestman, now coach of the Chicago Bears, coached the club from 2008-2012, winning two Grey Cups. Iman Marshall Womens Jersey . The question is trickiest for the Algerian team, which faces a formidable German side on Monday. There are also Muslims on the Nigerian and French teams and those players also will have to weigh their religious convictions against the possible effects of fasting on their performance. "We need to discuss it among ourselves," Algerian player Djamel Mesbah said. "Its clear that our religion is very important for the team, so we will talk about it and see how to go forward." Athletes in the Olympics in 2012 faced the same hurdle, with many teams allowing their players to eat during Ramadan so as not to impair their performance and make up for it at another time or make donations to charity. While fasting during daytime over the 30 days of Ramadan, including abstaining from drinking liquids, is mandatory for all able bodied Muslims and one of the five pillars of Islam, there are exemptions, including for the sick, pregnant, infirm or elderly. Those travelling or going to war are also excluded and it is under this provision that most athletes will likely delay the fast until a more suitable time. Algerian team captain Madjid Bouguerra pointed out in interviews with the Algerian press that it is a challenge Muslim players in European clubs have long faced and when he was with the Glasgow Rangers, he fasted but made sure he kept his performance up. "The hardest thing is staying hydrated, but its ok, the weathers good here," he said. "Some players will postpone their fast for another time, but depending on my physical condition, I think I will do it." Bacary Sagna, a Muslim player in the French squad, said that many of the players who do it are used to it from their time in the European leagues and able to function. "As a Muuslim I know that there are certain rules that allow us to avoid it," he told The Associated Press in Ribeirao Preto, Brazil.dddddddddddd "Personally Im not going to do it, everyones free to do as they will and I totally respect those that will do it." From a religious standpoint, however, it becomes a bit more complex. Islam lacks a central hierarchy like the Catholic church and any imam can issue an opinion that is then obeyed depending on how much respect they command. Even in Algeria, which is bathing in the euphoria of qualifying for the second round of the World Cup for the first time in its history, there have been a range of opinions from religious scholars, with some coming out quite strongly against fasting exemptions. "It is not allowed for an Algerian player to avoiding fasting just for a game -- they must fast because God is with those who fast and young people can fast and play at the same time," said Mohammed Mekerkab, the head of Algerias association of religious scholars. He also dismissed the exemption for travel claimed by most athletes since the provision was only for voyages undertaken in the search for knowledge, health reasons or fighting jihad. Algerias government-appointed High Islamic Council, however, has come down in favour of those wanting to delay their fast. Sheikh Mohammed Sherif Kaher, the head of the councils commission for religious opinions said "those playing can abstain from fasting." Dr. Hakim Chalabi, a specialist in sports and fasting who accompanied the team to Brazil, admitted in an interview that it is a delicate question because of the need for hydration and the increased risk of injuries. He noted, though, that fasting wasnt always a total hindrance to players. "We are often asked to urge players not to fast, but oddly, in some cases, there are athletes that get better results during Ramadan because they are fasting and want to," he said. "It can b

DURHAM, N.C. -- The shot that would have beaten No. 8 Duke hung on the rim, bouncing once, then twice. "It felt like an eternity," freshman Jabari Parker said. Once it fell harmlessly off the rim, the Blue Devils finally exhaled. Parker scored 23 points and blocked one of Marylands two shots in the final 10 seconds of the Blue Devils 69-67 victory Saturday night. "That was vintage Cameron, man," Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski said. "That was one for the ages." Rodney Hood and Rasheed Sulaimon added 11 points each for the Blue Devils (20-5, 9-3 Atlantic Coast Conference), who won their eighth in nine games and started a run of four games in eight nights by giving the Terrapins a hard-to-swallow loss in their last scheduled visit to Cameron Indoor Stadium. The ACCs top 3-point shooting team was just 5 of 24 from long range and shot 23 per cent in the second half. Duke led by double figures for all of about 15 seconds before scratching its way to the 20-win mark for the 18th straight year. "Sometimes the basketball gods fool around with you when youre not shooting, and they say, Youve got to figure out another way to win this thing," Krzyzewski said. "Our effort those last 20 seconds was spectacular." Jake Layman scored 18 points for Maryland (14-12, 6-7) and Dez Wells -- who just about single-handedly beat the Blue Devils by scoring 30 in last years ACC quarterfinals -- had all 17 of his points in the second half. Charles Mitchell finished with 12 for the Terrapins, but missed two hook shots in the final 10 seconds that would have given them the lead. "I dont know how Charles shot didnt go in," Maryland coach Mark Turgeon said. "Call the Duke gods." Parker gave Duke the lead for good when his authoritative, one-handed dunk over Jonathan Graham made it 68-67 with about 1:15 remaining. Wells missed a jumper over Hood with about 50 seconds left. Duke milked the shot clock before Amile Jefferson missed a jumper that failed to draw iron, giving the Terrapins the ball. The teams traded timeouts with 18.8 seconds left before Maryland worked the ball inside to Mitchell. He had one hook shot blocked by Parker with about 7 seconds left, and another bounced twice on the rim but would not fall through. "The guys kind of willed their way to the basket," Turgeon said. "It just didnt drop." Said Jefferson: "You just hold your breath." The rebound made its way to Jefferson, who was fouled with 1.1 seconds left and hit a free throw to end the scoring. Wells couldnt get off an 80-foot heave before the buzzer, sealing Dukes 30th straight victory at Cameron. That tied Stephen F. Austin for the longest active home streak in the country. Duke missed 17 of its first 19 shots in the second half before Jefferson banked one in to tie it at 54 with 6 1/2 minutes left. About 2 minutes earlier, Wells capped a 12-1 run with a layup that gave the Terrapins their first lead at 54-52, and it was a one-possession game the rest of the way. The Big Ten-bound Terps got quite an early earful from the Cameron Crazies, who taunted Turgeon with their classic "Sweat, Gary, Sweat" chant that had been mothballed since Gary Williams retired three years ago. But once Maryland started chipping into -- and eventually completely erasing -- the Duke lead, those jeers stopped. "Im going to miss (the Duke rivalry) like crazy," Turgeon said. "We played tonight for Maryland. ... We played for all our former coaches, former players ... because we knew we werent getting them at our place. This was our one chance." Jefferson finished with 12 rebounds for the Blue Devils, who have a busy week coming up because their rivalry game with North Carolina was postponed due to a nasty winter storm. That game was rescheduled for Feb. 20 -- two nights after they visit Georgia Tech, and two nights before they host No. 1 Syracuse. "This is a fun time for us and this should really be a good time to see where our team is at, to evaluate it and to get better," Jefferson said. That the Blue Devils missed 11 of their first 13 attempts from 3-point range could have been attributed to rust for a team that entered hitting 3s at a league-best 42 per cent clip. But they also were outrebounded 43-36 by the Terps and certainly looked ripe for an upset. They were unable to take advantage of Marylands drought early in the half, instead matching the Terps missed shot for missed shot. Maryland went 5 minutes between buckets early in the second half. In order for the New York Rangers to advance to the Eastern Conference finals for the second time in three years, the club is going to have to do something its never done before: beat the Pittsburgh Penguins in the playoffs. The Rangers hope to strike first in this fifth postseason meeting between the franchises, as they visit Pittsburgh for Fridays Game 1 battle at CONSOL Energy Center. The Penguins are 4-0 all-time in postseason series against the Blueshirts and boast a 16-4 record over those four playoff encounters. The only time New York was able to post more than one win in a series against the Pens was in the 1992 Division Finals, when Pittsburgh downed the Rangers in six games en route to its second straight Stanley Cup title. The most recent playoff encounter was in the 2008 conference semifinals when Pittsburgh ousted the Rangers in five games. New York, which made the conference finals in 2012, is in the second round for the third straight season after beating Philadelphia in seven games in the opening round. Home-ice advantage came in handy for the Blueshirts, as they claimed a 2-1 win at Madison Square Garden in the final test against the Flyers, improving to 6-0 all-time in Game 7s on home ice. In this round, however, the Rangers will have to prove they can win on the road against the Metropolitan Division champion Penguins. "Were battle-tested and ready for the next series," said Rangers head coach Alain Vigneault. "Philly was a real tough opponent, and you have to give them credit, it was a great series, but we know if you look on paper Pittsburgh is probably one of the best teams in the league. They were (13) points ahead of us in the regular season, so were going to have our hands full." The Pens and Rangers split four meetings during the 2013-14 campaign, with both teams recording 2-1-1 records. New York had lost five straight in Pittsburgh before ending that road slide with a 4-3 shootout win on Feb. 7. Game 2 is scheduled for Sunday in the Steel City, while New York gets to host the third meeting on Monday. Fatigue could be an issue for the Rangers at the start of this series, as New York will have played five games in a span of seven days through Game 3 of this set. The Pens, on the other hand, had three full days of rest heading into Game 1. Pittsburgh is in the second round after beating Columbus in six games during the conference quarterfinals. The Pens are after a second straight trip to the East finals after getting swept by Boston in the penultimate playoff round last spring. A big topic of conversation in the middle of the first round was Pittsburgh captain Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkins lack of goal-scoring. But, after Malkin turned in a hat trick to help Pittsburgh clinch the series in Game 6, that likely puts an end to the discussion for now. Malkin ended with seven points on three goals and four assists. Crosby failed to score a goal in six games, but with six assists to his credit its difficult to say he was unproductive. Still, Crosby, the odds-on favorite to win this seasons Hart Trophy, hasnt recorded a goal in his last 11 playoff games and if he goes long without scoring one in this series it could become an issue once again. Crosby and Chris Kunitz led Pittsburgh with six points apiece during the season series with New York, with the captain notching a goal and five assists and Kunitz delivering three goals and three helpers. Malkin only played in two of the four meetings and had a goal and an assist. When things go wrong for Pittsburgh, nobody gets criticized more than No. 1 goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury. Last spring, Fleury was replaced by Tomas Vokoun as the clubs starting goaltender after Game 4 of the opening round against the New York Islanders and did not start another game in the playoffs. Fleury struggled at times during the conference quarterfinals against Columbus, but not enough for head coach Dan Bylsma to make the switch to current backup Jeff Zatkoff. For the most part, Fleury was solid against the Blue Jackets in Round 1. He ended the series with a .908 save percentage and 2.81 goals against average. The 29-year-old is 49-36 with a .903 save percentage and .273 GAA throughout his playoff career. The biggest advantage New York has over the Penguins could be in net, where Rangers backstop Henrik Lundqvist is as steady as they come. The 32-year-old Swede posted a .919 save percentage and 2.11 GAA in the seven games against Philadelphia Lundqvist is a big reason the Rangers are so difficult to beat in a long series. With its win over Philly, the Blueshirts became the first team in NHL history to win a Game 7 in the first round in three consecutive postseasons. In five career Game 7s, Lundqvist is 4-1 with a 1.00 GAA, a .963 save percentage and has allowed two goals or fewer in all five games. The Rangers threw a balanced scoring attack at Philadelphia, with eight players tied for the team lead with two goals apiece and 17 skaters in all registered at least one point. Martin St. Louis and Brad Richards, both members of Tampa Bays 2004 Stanley Cup-winning team, led the way with six points on two goals and four assists, while fellow forwards Carl Hagelin, Benoit Pouliot and Mats Zuccarello each had two goals and two assists. Even physical forward Daniel Carcillo joined the fun, as the ex-Flyer scored two goals against his former team, including the first marker in Wednesdays 2-1 Game 7 victory. If there is one guy who needs to get going for New York its the clubs top offensive weapon Rick Nash. The big, talented winger led the team with 26 goals during the regular season, but he failed to score against the Flyers while notching four assists. Over 23 career playoff games, Nash only has managed two goals while recording 10 assists. Zuccarello posted two goals and four assists to lead the Rangers in scoring against the Pens during the season series. Both Fleury and Lundqvist started all four games in net. Pittsburghs No. 1 netminder had a 3.12 GAA in the season series, while Lundqvist was slightly better with a 2.88 GAA. Buy Sneakers Online Cheap . Manning, 38, has said he plans to keep playing.Manning and longtime rival Tom Brady also extended their lead for division titles by a quarterback. The latter tied the mark set the previous season. The league-wide completion rate (62.6 per cent), passer rating (88.9) and total touchdown passes (807) were at historic levels. So was the interception rate of 2.52 per cent, the lowest of any season in NFL history. An NFL-record nine quarterbacks had 30 or more touchdown passes: Andrew Luck (40), Peyton Manning (39), Aaron Rodgers (38), Tony Romo (34), Brady (33), Drew Brees (33), Ben Roethlisberger (32), Philip Rivers (31) and Eli Manning (30). Brees has passed for at least 30 touchdowns in seven consecutive seasons, extending his NFL-record streak.Roethlisberger became the first player in NFL history with six touchdown passes in consecutive games. Rodgers, with a 112.2 passer rating, is the only player to reach a 100-plus rating in six consecutive seasons.Luck has 12,957 yards passing, eclipsing Peyton Manning (12,287) for the most in a players first three seasons. Thats tied for most in a season (1995).Detroits Calvin Johnson became the quickest to 10,000 yards receiving, 115 games.Three rookie wide receivers gained at least 1,000 yards through the air: Odell Beckham Jr., Mike Evans and Kelvin Benjamin. Thats an NFL mark.Beckham and Evans each had 12 touchdown receptions, the first time two rookie receivers have had at least 10 TD catches in the same season.Chicagos Matt Forte set a record for running backs with 102 receptions.Special teams certainly contributed to the accomplishments, with the league average of 23.8 yards per kickoff return tying a mark set in 2011.Atlantas Devin Hester has 20 return touchdowns in his career, surpassing Hall of Famer Deion Sanders for the most in NFL history. The Eagles scored 11 return touchdowns (three blocked punts, two kick returns, two punt returns, two interception returns and two fumble returns), with 10 players doing so. The 10 players is a record.Indianapolis kicker Adam Vinatieri, with 140 points this season, became the only player to score 100 or more points in 17 seasons. Paul Nicholls retained his champion trainer title after saddling the second and the fourth in the bet365 Gold Cup. Final standingsPaul Nicholls - £2,439,559 Willie Mullins - £2,341,7341805pm: Willie Mullins does get his Sandown win, but its all too little too late. McKinley wins the last race of the UK jumps season, pocketing his handler £18,768 and that will pay for the Vroum Vroum Mag fine and some.1740pm: A sixth place for Some Buckle in the 5.20 gets another £348 in the kitty for Nicholls ahead of the final race. Back to Vroum Vroum Mag and the title. Heres the thoughts of Mullins: We came over here to win the championship and we have had a fantastic reception. In the light of the Bet365 Gold Cup we cant win the championship and we are taking Vroum Vroum Mag home and she has a valuable couple of races to run in at Punchestown. She was only here for the championship and Mr (Rich) Ricci very kindly let me bring her over to run in a race of much less value. Now we will do what we were aiming to do all winter. I will probably get fined - theres no such thing as a free lunch. We have had a fantastic year. Im just sorry for punters who came to see Vroum Vroum Mag. But the championship was over and we had to take a different view. The stewards took a dim view of Vroum Vroum Mag being taken out, fining Mullins £1,000 and ruling he had shown a wilful disregard for the interests of racegoers and punters.1700pm: The bandwagon for Nicholls rolled on with Ptit Zig taking full advantage of Vroum Vroum Mags late defection to pocket another £28,475. For good measure, stablemate Silsol was second (£10,685) and also San Benedeto fifth (£1,340). So what started as a £53,000 plus lead can now be counted at a whopping £116,245.04.1650pm: More from a jubilant Nicholls: Tom (Jonason, assistant) is leaving today and he didnt want to leave with us getting beaten. Its great for the whole team, everybody involved - its not about me. Its a big team effort, always has been, always will be.Its been a tough season for lots of reasons, we had a bit of a flat spot and all sorts of gossip and rumours that things werent right, but you have to dig deep and keep going.Weve just kept trying to win as many races as we can. If you get in a position to do so, then great. He went on: Its been brilliant. I thought we had no chance after Aintree and I knew Willie would dig deep and keep finding plenty to run and we needed a few miracles. Vicente in the Scottish National last week gave us a big day and the others have been running well. The first one was special and this one is far and away the best, probably, weve had to fight and you dont want to give it up easily. When Kauto Star and Master Minded were winning, youd win the trainers championship by Christmas. Those horses carry you and possibly it doesnt have that much interest then, but the interest from the public and racing people in this has been good.Theres been a lot of pressure for all of us, but hopefully its been good for racing to get more interest in it.Willie is a fantastic trainer with fantastic horses, I have huge respect for him.1640pm: Maybe the gap wont change too much - Vroum Vroum Mag has been taken out of the Select Hurdle.1639pm: More money to be played for and the margin is likely to change, but after the efforts of Just A Par and Southfield Theatre (fourth, earning £7950), Nicholls took firm control by £75,745.04 and thats unassailable. Congratulations to all involved, in both camps.1635pm: Precise details of winning margin to come later, but £31,800 picked up by Just A Par for his second to The Young Master means its all over - Nicholls is confirmed as champion trainer once more. Swift bit of reaction from the Ditcheat maestro: To get Just A Par back from where he finished in the National (15th) - Harry (Cobden) gave him an awesome ride. Thats been the toughest one because of the ammunition weve had. Its been a big team effort. Its been brilliant for racing.1623pm: And PAUL NICHOLLS is Champion Trainer! Hes just beaten in the bet365 Gold Cup as The Young Master beats Just A Par, but with that second place and Southfield Theatres fourth he cant be caught now.350pm: Wow. That was sensational by Sprinter Sacre. Un De Sceaux second and Dodging Bullets third, but really the winner was in another parish. After some totting up, Mullins now trails by £35,995.04, so its still all to play for as Mullins can still look forward to Vroum Vroum Mag. But before that its the big one of the day, the bet365 Gold Cup. Nicholls is represented by Southfield Theatre and Just A Par. Mullins needs big efforts from Sir Des Champs and Measureofmydreams.325pm: Sounds like Mullins might have thought that was the one, too: It would have been nice to win, but we didnt. Well have to wait and see. Could be a game changer next - the bet365 Celebration Chase (£125,000). Nicholls going with former two-mile king Dodging Bullets plus Solar Impulse and Ulck Du Lin. Mullins sends Un De Sceaux into battle - but Cheltenham conqueror Sprinter Sacre looms large.315pm: Another thriller - and another race without a Nicholls/Mullins winner. Mullins comes closest as Valseur Lido just finds old stager Menorah too strong - ridden appropriately by newly-crowned champion jockey Richard Johnson. With placed horses for both trainers, its a net gain of £4,665 for the Irish champion. But that might have been a big chance gone. Regardless, bringing the pennies into play, the gap is now down to £44,307.54.240pm: Next up is the bet365 Oaksey Chase, worth a total of £50,000. For Nicholls its Saphir Du Rheu, Rocky Creek and Wonderful Charm. Mullins has Valseur Lido and Ballycasey. The testing nature of Sandown might play to the strengths of Valseur Lido and he looks well treated by the conditions of the race. First prize is £28,475.235pm: If thats a sign of things to come it will be exciting - no winner for the big two as Wolf Of Windlesham takes top spot, but hes flanked on either side by Tommy Silver and Voix Du Reve.Voix Du Reve gets the nod for second, picking up £9,240, with Tommy Silver third for £4,620.That makes it a reduced lead of £48,972 for Nicholls. Game on?2pm: The battle for the National Hunt trainers championship has come right down to the final afternoon of the season at Sandown, with Paul Nicholls (£2,329,252) holding an advantage of £53,592 over Willie Mullins (£2,275,660).The latter is bidding to become the first Irish-based trainer since the great Vincent OBrien in 1953-4 to lift the British title and has a host of major chances, although he might need them all to win.Getting things under way at 2.20 is the bet365 Juvenile Handicap Hurdle, worth £50,000 and in which Nicholls fields Tommy Silver and Mullins calls on Voix Du Reve, who looked sure to go close when coming to grief at the final flight in the Fred Winter at Cheltenham. The final total for Nicholls stood at #2,439,560.26 to Mullins on #2,341,735.22 - meaning the margin of victory ended at #97,825.04.Shall we do it all again next year, gents? The fourth officials board showed four minutes of added time, but QPR couldnt make it all the way back and suffered its 10th defeat of the season, while Everton claimed its fift

(SportsNetwork.com) - The Winnipeg Jets hope to set into motion a losing streak for the Colorado Avalanche this evening. You can catch all of the action on TSN Jets and TSN 1290 at 7pm ct. Winnipeg continues to lose ground in the Western Conference playoff race as it sits six points out of the second wild card position. The Jets snapped a six- game slide with a 7-2 win over Dallas on Sunday, but fell in defeat the following night 3-1 to the St. Louis Blues. Eric ODell scored the Jets lone goal and the clubs were tied until the Blues David Backes scored a power-play goal with 6:51 to play. Winnipeg went down a man when Evander Kane went off for slashing. "We just cant be in the box there," Winnipeg head coach Paul Maurice said of Kanes penalty, which occurred in the offensive zone. "Thats the bottom line on that play." Al Montoya allowed two goals on 25 shots for the Jets. It is unknown when Ondrej Pavelec will be ready to return from a lower-body injury, so Montoya will get the start again tonight. He has good numbers versus the Avalanche, going 2-1-2 with a 2.14 GAA and one shutout. Dustin Byfuglien will miss his first game of the season tonight due to a lower-body injury. Head coach Paul Maurice hopes hell be able to play Saturday against Carolina. Eric Tangradim, who has been a healthy scratch for the last four games, replaces Byfuglien. The Avs are coming off just their third setback in the past 10 games, losing in head coach Patrick Roys return to Montreal. Roy starred for the Canadiens franchise for 10-plus seasons before a trade to the Avalanche in 1995 and received a warm reception during the game. The home cheers eventually went to Montreals Thomas Vanek, who notched a hat trick to help hand Colorado a 6-3 loss. Jamie McGinn had a goal and an assist for the Avalanche, who also got goals from Nathan MacKinnon and Maxime Talbot. Jean-Sebastien Giguere turned aside 30-of-35 shots. "I didnt want them to feel pressure of winning a hockey game for their coach. Its all about our team here," Roy said. The Avs fell into a tie with the Chicago Blackhawks for second place in the Central Division, eight points back of the first-place St. Louis Blues. Theyll try to avoid losing two straight for the first time since Feb. 4-6. Reto Berra, the third goaltender on Colorados roster, will get the start tonight and it will be his first with the Avalanche since they acquired him from the Calgary Flames. Berra, signed to a three-year extension by the Avs last Friday, was 9-17-2 with a 2.95 goals against average in 29 games (27 starts) with the Flames. That includes a 1-1-0 mark versus the Jets with a 4.32 GAA. The Avs have won three of four versus the Jets this season, including a 4-3 shootout decision on Dec. 12 in the lone encounter in Winnipeg. ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. - Its back to normal for the vagabond Buffalo Bills.Finally.The more than 6 feet of snow from the severe lake-effect storm that paralyzed much of the Buffalo region last week has mostly melted away. So has the Bills two-game skid, following a 38-3 rout of the New York Jets in a home game at Detroit on Monday night. And after a much-needed day of rest Tuesday, the Bills (6-5) can turn their attention to hosting the Cleveland Browns (7-4) in a key AFC playoff showdown this weekend. It was just a busy, hectic week. And really this win was for the city of Buffalo, giving back for everything that theyve been through, receiver Robert Woods said. It feels good, especially after a win. Now weve just got to get another one.First things first, said team president Russ Brandon.Im just happy were home, Brandon said, after the team returned home at 1 a.m. Tuesday, after spending the previous four days in Detroit. Its great to be sitting back in Orchard Park and looking forward to preparing for Sunday. And, yes, Brandon expects the game against Cleveland will be played at Ralph Wilson StadiumFollowing a tour of the facility, Brandon anticipates the stadium will be 100 per cent operational, despite experiencing some minor damage during the storm. The problems ranged from burst pipes, to leakage, to parts of the wall separating the field from the stands being damaged during the snow-removal process. A portion of the wall of the Bills practice facility caved in, but has already been repaired.Brandon said engineers found no structural issues to the stadium itself.A weekend warmup contributed to the speedier than expected cleanup. Crews of about 500 snow-shovelling volunteers did the rest by working three shifts around the clock from Saturday morning to Monday night. If not for the thaw, the Bills projected it would have taken until Friday to clear the 200-acre grounds of the estimated 330,000 tons of snow — enough to fill the teams fieldhouse about 12 times over. The Bills hope to find themselves on better footing, too, after their most lopsided win since beating Indianapolis 38-0 on Sept. 20, 1992.Buffalos defence allowed a season-low 218 yards offence, and had a season-best seven sacks to up its NFL-leading total to 46. The Bills special teams produced a touchdown, when Anthony Dixon blocked Ryan Quigleys punt, which was recovered in the end zone by Manny Lawson. And the Kyle Orton-led offence ended a seven-plus-quarter touchdown drought. Buffalo also produced touchdowns on each of its three red-zone possessions, after going 0-for-6 in its previous two games. Not bad for a snowbound team that didnt have a chance to practice last week until arriving in Detroit on Friday. The storm had a unifying effect.A lot of players have been through a lot, Woods said. And you just realize how much you miss the game, miss your teammates. It was just happy to get back and be able to play football again, and get out of the house, really. The second-year receiver led the way with a career-best nine catches and 118 yards and a touchdown. Woods also made a highlight-reel one-handed grab up the right sideline during which he maintained control by holding the ball to the side of his helmet.Woods acknowledged his catch wasnt as clean or breath-taking as New York Giants receiver Odell Beckham Jr.s one-handed grab for a touchdown in a 31-28 loss to the Cowboys on Sunday night. But Beckhams catch was certainly on Woods mind before the game while he warmed up with backup quarterback EJ Manuel.Every time (Manuel) caught it one hand, it was like, Odell! Odell! Woods said. And it just so happened that I had a chance to make a play like that in the game. I had a little helmet help, but its still a good catch.NOTES: The Bills return to practice Wednesday. ... "I learned that the first year I came here, not to pay attention to many people outside the dressing room," the 23-year-old said on a noisy Friday afternoon. "All those blogs, newspapers and people saying what they want to say, they have their own opinion, but at the end of the day Im not hearing it." Kadri is trudging through the longest slump of what is, in reality, a brief NHL career. Though he remains on pace for a respectable 19 goals and 47 points, he has just one goal in the past 16 games and a quiet 14 points since the start of November – a stretch of 31 games. "I think its been decent," said Kadri of his season so far, which has him sitting fourth in team scoring with 27 points. "[But] I know I can bring a lot better. Obviously, everyone expects a lot more, which is a little flattering to say the least, because people believe in you and understand that you can give more to the team. No one expects more than I expect from myself." In midst of those struggles is bubbling trade speculation, which Toronto general manager Dave Nonis addressed in an interview with TSN Radio on Thursday. "Theres a lot of interest in Nazem Kadri," said Nonis. "Would we be willing to trade him? Yes, wed be willing to trade him. But theres a big difference between willing to and trying to." Kadri, for one, has no interest in a potential move. "Itd be terrible," Kadri said of a possible trade. "I dont see it happening and I dont want it to happen. This is my home, this is where I want to be and til otherwise Im going to give them everything I have." Though his career seems like its spanned ages in Toronto, Kadri is still just 23 and midway through only his second NHL season. The point is, hes young with plenty of opportunity and time for growth and development ahead. Patience is a virtue often lost, however, on youthful talent in this city. A first round selection of the organization in 2002, Alex Steen, for example, was dealt to St. Louis as a 24-year-old, gradually evolving into one of the games better two-way forwards with the Blues. Nonis has pledged an unwillingness to repeat such mistakes, firm in his stance that young talent only be moved if something was similar was gained in return. Unlike last season, when Kadri totaled a blistering 44 points in 48 games, thee London, Ontario native has suffered through an extended rough patch, facing more difficult competition in light of injuries – including a 12-game stretch as the teams no.dddddddddddd 1 centre – while regressing statistically with some of the luck that made his first full campaign in the NHL so alluring. And unlike October, when he totaled 13 points in 14 games, Kadri and the teams second power-play unit have been unproductive. In fact, he has just one power-play point in the past 19 games. "With him, its back to basics and I thought that he played better [recently], but hasnt had the offensive output," coach Randy Carlyle said of Kadri. "Its up to Nazzie to put his nose to the grindstone, to do the little things, get involved physically, move the puck, keep it simple, and make plays when hes inside the blueline – deep enough that we dont have to risk the turnover." "It just seems like pucks are hitting skates or goalies are just getting a piece of it and theyre hanging on the goal-lines, hitting posts – Ive had the whole nine yards over the past couple weeks," said Kadri, who last scored in New York on Dec. 23. "Hopefully, my lucks going to change because it can only get better from here." His line, which includes Joffrey Lupul and Mason Raymond, has been quiet and kept in in tow. Lupul has gone pointless in 12 of the past 18 games, while Raymond has a mere two goals in 21 outings. "[The] past few games weve been sniffing," said Kadri, confidence dinged but not broken. "I think every single game were up to four, five, six, sometimes seven scoring chances a game – A-plus scoring chances – so its only a matter of time before those pucks start finding the back of the net and we get that confidence and swagger back." It was only last season, albeit in the American League, that Kadri endured similar struggles with the Marlies. He scored just twice in the first 18 games (with the NHL locked out) and was scratched by then-head coach Dallas Eakins in early November. Outside noise was then, like it is presently, loud and sometimes lacking in the realities that come with the development of a young player. Kadri, who emerged from that spell with 10 points in four games, is well sch

NEW YORK -- There was nothing mysterious about Michael Pinedas performance this time. Masahiro Tanakas dominant outing was pretty straight forward, too. A day that began with snow in the outfield ended with a double whitewashing. Pineda followed an overpowering outing by Tanaka with one of his own, pitching six innings of four-hit ball as the New York Yankees beat the Chicago Cubs 2-0 on a bitterly cold Wednesday night to complete its first doubleheader shutout sweep since 1987. "It just goes to show you how well our pitchers threw," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "When you shut out a team for 18 innings youre doing things right." Tanaka (2-0) struck out 10 and allowed just two bunt hits -- one replay aided -- over eight innings in a 3-0 win in the opener of the day-night twinbill. Carlos Beltran homered for a third straight game, off Jason Hammel in the first inning of the Cubs first regular-season game at the current Yankee Stadium. "That split is not something you want to sit on. Its not something youre going to be able to handle," Cubs manager Rick Renteria said. "But, as it was coming out of the hand, as the guys were coming in, they were saying, Gosh, it looks like a fastball. It ends up diving." Brett Gardner and Scott Sizemore had RBI singles off Travis Wood (0-2) in the nightcap, helping the Yankees win for the fifth time in six games and handing Chicago its fourth straight loss. New York had not won by shutout twice in one day since April 9, 1987, against Kansas City, according to STATS, and no team in the major leagues had done it since Minnesota swept Oakland on June 26, 1988. The Cubs had not been blanked twice on the same day since Larry Jackson and Ray Sadecki pitched complete games for St. Louis on June 27, 1962. Chicago was 9 for 61 (.148) at the plate, dropping its season average to .230, and struck out 17 times. Pineda (2-1) was pitching for the first time since he was spotted with brown goo on his right hand during Thursdays 4-1 win against Boston, touching off a debate about pitchers use of sticky substances to get better grips in cool weather. It was significantly colder Wednesday, with temperatures in the low-40s and a frigid wind, but Pinedas hand was clean throughout. "I didnt do nothing," Pineda said when asked if he used something to improve his hold on the ball. "I was focusing on throwing the ball good." And he did, despite pitching in some really harsh weather. In fact, he said it was the coldest hes ever pitched in. Anthony Rizzos triple with two outs in the sixth off Pineda was the Cubs only extra-base hit of the day. Chicago totalled six hits against a pair of 25-year-old power pitchers who rarely walk batters. Tanaka (2-0) and Pineda each gave up one free pass. "Both of them, they were good," said Emilio Bonifacio, who was 0 for 8 on the day. "Their breaking pitches, they were pretty good, so it was really tough." Shawn Kelley yielded a hit to Rizzo, who had three hits overall, in the ninth inning of the opener but secured his fourth save. Adam Warren put runners on second and third in the ninth inning of the nightcap, but finished for his first save. With Tuesdays rainout postponing Jackie Robinson Day festivities, the Yankees unveiled a plaque honouring Nelson Mandela before the second game. Players from both teams wore No. 42. The Cubs have yet to win in the Bronx. They were swept in the 1932 and 38 World Series and lost all three-games in 2005, their only interleague series in New York. After an overnight storm, the grounds crew used blowers to melt the ice on the tarp before removing the covering from the infield. Snow still covered the grass in right field while the Cubs took batting practice, and many players wore ski caps. But it wasnt too cold for Beltran. He connected on a 1-1 changeup from Hammel (2-1) with one out in the first. Dean Anna started again at shortstop for Derek Jeter and drove in his run with a fly to left field in the fourth. Jeter went 1 for 5 in the night game, his first action since Friday. New York added a run in the fifth when Junior Lake lost Gardners liner to left in the sun for a double. After Gardner advanced on Beltrans groundout, Jacoby Ellsburys bat made contact with catcher John Bakers glove before dunking a ball in front of the mound. Catchers interference was called but under rule 6.08 (c), the Yankees had the choice to reject the interference call -- it would have put runners at the corners -- and take the play as it unfolded on the field. The elected for the latter, with Gardner scoring and Ellsbury tagging out by Hammel. "With one out, you take the run," Girardi said. Lake got the first hit off Tanaka with one out in the second when he bunted toward the third base side, and the right-hander fielded it cleanly. Initially, first base umpire Manny Gonzalez called Lake out but Renteria requested a challenge and the call was overturned. Hammel was nearly as good as Tanaka. He yielded three runs and five hits, striking out five. NOTES: Cubs pitchers Edwin Jackson and Carlos Villanueva will swap start days. WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Only two Syracuse teams have won their first 20 games, and C.J. Fair has been a member of both. This current one, he says, is "a hard-fought 20-game winning streak." Not much came easy during the Oranges latest victory. No. 2 Syracuse matched the best start in program history Wednesday night, pulling away to beat Wake Forest 67-57 behind a strong second half from freshman Tyler Ennis. Ennis scored 16 of his 18 points after halftime and Fair finished with 16 points for the Orange (20-0, 7-0 Atlantic Coast Conference), while Trevor Cooney scored all eight of his in the final 1:45. Syracuse remained one of three unbeaten teams in Division I with No. 1 Arizona, which beat Stanford 60-57 on Wednesday, and No. 4 Wichita State. The Orange pulled away late while sidestepping a possible trap with a visit from No. 17 Duke coming up this weekend, and joined the 2011-12 group as the only Orange teams to start 20-0. "Weve got a long stretch ahead of us," Fair said. In their first visit to Tobacco Road as ACC members, they had to work for it against a Wake Forest team that had been perfect at home and tough on visitors in the top five. "It was just one of those games youre just trying to struggle through defensively, and we did just a good enough job defensively to be able to get the win," coach Jim Boeheim said. "You have to find a way to win these games, and this team has been able to do that." Travis McKie scored 12 points for the Demon Deacons (14-7, 4-4), and his free throw with 4:10 left pulled them to 54-49. But while Wake Forest came up empty on its next two trips down court, Cooney caught fire. "We needed one of those timely 3s to go in," McKie said. "If we just wouldve got three more of those 3s to go in, wed be looking at a different outcome." The guard buried a fall-away jumper that he called "the toughest shot I had all day." He followed that with two free throws to give Syracuse its first double-figure lead and streaked down court for an open-court dunk after a steal by Fair to put the Orange up 62-50 with 1:19 left. "I heard C.J. say, Shoot it," Cooney said. "And no one needs to tell me to shoot it." By then, they could look ahead to hosting the Blue Devils at the Carrier Dome in one of the seasons most widely anticipated matchups. Devin Thomas scored 12 points for Wake Forest, which had won 13 straight at Joel Coliseum and had won three straight home games against top-five teams -- a run that included a rout of then-No. 2 Miami last season. Just about all of the Demon Deacons key stats suggested they would be blown out: They shot 34 per cent, were outrebounded 55-35, made just three of their 20 3-point attempts and were 18 of 30 from the free throw line. "Theyre long and athletic, so their zone is definitely a force to be reckoned with," McKie said. "We had great looks. We just didnt knock it down." But some of the Oranges numbers were equally poor -- they shot 36 per cent and were 22 of 33 from the free throw line -- and that allowed Wake Forest to stay within striking distance for much of the game. "For the most part, we did a good job on their shooters, and when they got an open look, they just didnt make it," Boeheim said. "Same as us." Joel Coliseum was buzzing when Wake Forest turned an eight-point deficit into a one-possession game in the span of a few seconds midway through the second half. Robert Morris transfer Coron Williams swished a 3-pointer before Madison Jones swiped the ball from Cooney and hit a quick layup to make it 40-37 with 12 1/2 minutes left. Ennis, who was 0 for 6 from the field in the first half, followed by reeling off eight points -- all on drives down or across the lane -- in about 4 minutes to give the Orange a bit of breathing room. His finger roll helped Syracuse match its largest lead to that point, 48-40, with about 8 1/2 minutes left. Jerami Grant finished with 10 points and 12 rebounds for the Orange. Now theyre sweeping out their front office. Owner Jimmy Haslam announced Tuesday that CEO Joe Banner will step down in the next two months and general manager Michael Lombardi is leaving the team. "Mike and Joe have left us in good position in terms of free agency and cap space as well as this years draft, where we have 10 overall picks and three of the first 35," Haslam said at a news conference. Its yet another stunning development for a franchise that has undergone nearly constant change in the past 15 years. Haslam also said assistant GM Ray Farmer, who was pursued by Miami to be the Dolphins GM this winter, has been promoted and will immediately take the over the teams football operations and lead the Browns during free agency and draft. Cleveland has two first-round picks in Mays draft and is well under the salary cap to spend on free agents. Haslam added that president Alec Scheiner will keep his current role. "Alec Scheiner will run our business side and remain as president, Mike Pettine will be our head coach and Ray Farmer will be our GM," Haslam said. "We will not have a CEO and those three people will report directly to me." The shake-up comes one month after the Browns finally hired coach Mike Pettine. Banner and Haslam had fired coach Rob Chudzinski after a 4-12 season, the teams sixth straight with at least 11 losses. Wisconsin said Tuesday that coach Gary Andersen was contacted by the Cleveland Browns for their coaching vacancy but decided not to pursue the position following a conversation with the NFL team, which spent 25 days to hire Pettine. "Mike will have final say on the 45-man roster-- who plays on Sundays-- and Ray will have final say on the 53-plaayer roster," Haslam said.dddddddddddd Banner, who previously worked in Philadelphia, was hired by Haslam to run the team shortly after his ownership was approved by the league in 2012. "We appreciate Joes contributions to the Cleveland Browns, especially in helping us as new owners," Haslam said in a release. "He was committed to creating a successful organization and bringing in talented individuals. We thank him for his work and dedication. We wish him and his family the best." Banner will transition out of his job over the next two months. "It is bittersweet leaving the Browns organization," Banner said. "I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Jimmy Haslam and helping him set the infrastructure for this franchise. I am proud of the talented individuals we brought in to help lead this team and feel that the Cleveland Browns are in good hands moving forward." Lombardis departure ends a curious second stint with the team. His hiring was widely panned by some Cleveland media members and many fans because of his time with coach Bill Belichick when he was Clevelands coach. Lombardi kept a low profile over the past year in Cleveland and was not in attendance at any major news conferences. "Were also grateful for Mike Lombardis efforts and commitment since rejoining our organization," Haslam said. "He is an experienced and creative NFL executive with a unique ability to see the big picture. He has tremendous instincts and I know hell be a valuable addition to any NFL organization. PARIS -- Paris Saint-Germain continued its relentless march toward a second straight French title after thrashing Nantes 5-0 with a superb display of attacking football on Sunday, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic once again in irrepressible form as he scored twice and turned provider for Edinson Cavani. Ibrahimovic drilled in a first-half penalty, then set up Cavani before grabbing his second of the night to take his league tally to 17 in 20 games season. PSG never let up and could even have added further goals against a dispirited Nantes side. They will meet again next month in the semifinals of the League Cup and Nantes will hardly be looking forward to that contest. Center half Thiago Silva and midfielder Thiago Motta got PSGs other goals. "The lads did a lot of good things and I think if we carry on like this we can win the Champions League as well," Silva said. "I feel really good here with everyone, the coach, the president and I think I will stay here until the end of my contract. Ibra is a great player with a big personality, and I think he will stay as well." Meanwhile, Monaco won 2-0 away to Toulouse and Lyon made it 10 games unbeaten in all competitions with a 2-0 win at Reims. But Monacos win did little to unsettle PSG as former French president Nicolas Sarkozy was among the appreciative fans at Parc des Princes. "I think the players enjoyed it more than anyone," PSG coach Laurent Blanc said. "We could have eased up at 3-0 but the players wanted to score more, and thats good." PSG took the lead from a corner in 10th minute when goalkeeper Remy Riou saved Cavanis header and the rebound fell perfectly for Silva, giving him an easy finish from close range. PSG doubled its lead in the 36th when Ibrahimovic sent Riou the wrong way from the spot after defender Issa Cissokho had tripped Marco Verratti just inside the penalty area. The Sweden forward has scored six penalties this season. Brazilian winger Lucas came on for Argentinas Ezequiel Lavezzi at the start of the second half and within minutes he was involved in PSGs third goal in the 51st. His deep, floating cross from the right was headed back by Blaise Matuidi and Motta reacted quickly to slide the ball in from close range. Ibrahimovic found himself in space on the right wing and curled in a perfect pass to give Cavani his 13th goal of the season in the 58th, and Ibrahimovic slammed the ball past Riou after Matuidi and substitute Javier Pastore combined to set him up in the 64th. "We didnt do anything out there -- in defence, midfield or up front. They just did what they wanted. We just sat back and waited," said Nantes winger Fabrice Pancrate, who used to play for PSG. "If you dont play properly against a team like this, you get a result like that. We seemed to be terrified. I didnt recognize my teammates out there." Cavani missed two chances to make it 6-0 when he swiped a shot wide and then hit his shot straight at Riou after going clean through in the 87th. Earlier, left back Layvin Kurzawa put Monaco ahead in the 36th with a low shot after being set up by midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia, sweeping the ball in after running onto Kondogbias cross from the left. Lucas Ocampos came off the bench to add a second with a spectacular bicycle kick in the 88th. The Argentine winger replaced Colombia forward Radamel Falcao, after he missed three chances. Falcao has only scored once in his past five games for Monaco and appears short of form. "Its an important three points for us and it helps us get back on track," Monaco coach Claudio Ranieri said. Lyons goals came from striker Alexandre Lacazette and midfielder Gueida Fofana, moving the seven-time French champion up to eighth place. Demarcus Robinson Jersey . LONDON -- Roger Federer or Rafael Nadal -- and sometimes both -- appeared in all 10 Wimbledon finals from 2003-12, combining to claim nine of those titles. Neither made it that far in 2013. Not even close. Federer lost his second match at the All England Club. Nadal exited in the first round, a year after bowing out in the second. With play at Wimbledon starting Monday, Federer and Nadal are eager to return to the heights they once reached with regularity at the grass-court Grand Slam tournament. They sound certain that they are prepared to fare better than 12 months ago -- and, as might be expected from a seven-time champion, Federer came right out and called himself "a contender." "I feel like, yeah, if things click here, I should be able to win the tournament," Federer said Saturday. "I feel I have a very good chance again this year. I hope to utilize my fitness, the amount of matches Ive played this year," he added. "So Im really coming in with a much better feeling." Federer tuned up for Wimbledon, where he is seeded fourth, by winning a title on grass at Halle, Germany, last weekend. That showing gave Federer all the assurance he needed that his game is in prime form at the moment, especially on the slick surface he dominated for a decade. Last season, Federer explained, there were "certain things I wanted to do, but I couldnt figure out or couldnt do it." "This year," he continued, "I feel all the options are there. Return, serve, serve and volley, come in, my backhand -- everything is working to my liking. For that reason, I feel Im a bit more relaxed mentally, because I know it is there. I clearly want to do better than last year, theres no doubt about it." So does the second-seeded Nadal, of course. He reached five Wimbledon finals and earned a pair of trophies, including by edging Federer 9-7 in the fifth set in 2008. They met in three consecutive title matches at the All England Club from 2006-08, and could meet in the semifinals this year. First things first, though. Nadal has a test in the first round against big-hitting Martin Klizan, then could face Lukas Rosol, the man who stunned the Spaniard in 2012s second round. The third round could bring a challenge from tough server Ivo Karlovic. For now, Nadal is most pleased with the state of his left knee, which acted up during his 7-6 (4), 7-6 (8), 6-4 loss in 2013 to 135th-ranked Steve Darcis, saying it "hurts less this year than last year." Thats allowed Nadal to put in longer hours than usual on the practice courts this week, a key as the nine-time French Open champion transitions from clay to grass, on which he has lost three matches in a row. A year ago at Wimbledon, a 6-7 (5), 7-6 (5), 7-5, 7-6 (5) loss to 116th-ranked Sergiy Stakhovsky ended Federers streak of getting at least to the quarterfinals at 36 consecutive major tournaments. It was Federers earliest Grand Slam defeat since May 2003. Somber that day, at least Federer can joke about it now. He said that when he ran into Stakhovsky on Friday, they kidded around about how they could only meet in the final this year, because they were drawn into opposite sides of the bracket. "So its all good for both of us," Federer said, then paused before delivering the punch line: "For me, at least." Dino Boyd Jersey .
